For a very limited time -- just a week -- Woodpeckers is taking orders for their OS Sander Plate.  So, if you own, or ever plan to purchase the PC-121 Oscillating Spindle Sander, now's the time to get this plate.  And, eCLUB members can get a $5 discount.

I've looked at that before -- I don't own the PC sander but it would sure be a great way to set one up.

Woodhaven sell a similar plate, I have one.  I made a jig so that it will fit between my old MFT's and it works great.  Place the PC 121 in a systainer and you are good to go.

I have wanted one of these plates but it does not fit my Bench Dog router table.  It takes a smaller plate.  I have no desire to buy a new router table, router lift, etc.  just to accomodate this.

The folks at Woodpecker's are pretty accommodating.  You might want to give them a call to see if they could fix you up.

Ron,

I had actually called them before when this was offered.  I tried again this morning.  Apparently not enough interest for them to produce plates specific to Bench Dog.  They said they had one other call.

I might try to pickup a cheap top just to accommodate this.  Might be worth it since I would get a lot more use from this sander.

Thanks anyhow.

If your insert is actually smaller than the one they are offering it shouldn't be difficult to cut it down to fit your table.

You can get one of their full-sized tops for $79.99.  Dunno if that counts as "cheap"

BTW, the eClub code to get $5 off is "SP5"

Thanks all for your replies.

Ron,

The plate is made of cast aluminum.  I don't have the ability to cut that down.  Not sure where I would even begin but I don't want to have to purchase any special saw blades or farm it out.  If I did cut it down, I am not sure how it would effect the leveling screws around the perimeter.

WoodJunkie,

I actually did look into another top.  As you noted, they have some on special with imperfections but without fences.  I want the fence to be able to do edge sanding.

Tom,

I like your DIY approach but you are always wanting me to do something I am not comfortable doing.  Why don't you make me one and we'll talk about it. ;) :)

Bottom line is that I will probably go ahead and make the purchase and figure the rest out later.  By the time I get through I could have probably bought a stationery OS sander and still have the PC.

Neill,

I really don't think this OS Sander Plate is for you.  It would be a mistake to purchase this plate and attempt to cut it down to fit your router table.  There are leveling screws around the perimeter of the plate, so cutting an inch off of one end would then also cut off the two leveling screws on that end.  Worse yet, the end you would likely want to cut off would be the same end that has a spring-loaded gizmo installed into the edge that keeps the plate snug within your table's opening.  No, I would not recommend this product for those with a router table top that requires a different size plate.  If you want to modify a plate to accept your PC-121, you would be best to start with a blank plate that is made for your table.

I might just do that, Neill. I still haven't gotten around to the KAPEX insert(s).

Veronica has me pretty busy in my "spare" time...

Yeah, that's a few tons of limestone. And a few tons of gravel to go along with it.

Last weekend, it was about a ton of concrete that I foolishly mixed in my wheelbarrow. The heat index was only about 105 degrees.

This is my latest project. Festool tools used so far - KAPEX, C 12, TS 55 (all for concrete forms). I have put some Bully Tools to good use moving around gravel and mixing concrete. Man they make excellent stuff.

I'll try to document this one even though it is more of a Bully Tools and Marshalltown job.

Tom

Tom,

So sorry to hear about this project.  I think if my wife had me doing this I'd being using an S & W.  No Festools required here.  (Just kidding)

Keep smilin"!!!

He could nicely trim the dimensions down using his router table (we know he has one  [smile]) and with a drill press relocate the leveling jack screws & the spring loaded button (if he chose to modify that edge).  However, that all may be investing more time than the bargain would merit.  Some of us have more free time than others.  [smile]
