For many years my workbench was a torsion box top on a pair of Norm Abrams inspired sawhorses. In 2009 I decided to upgrade to the Heavy-Duty Workbench in ShopNotes 89. It was billed as a sub $100 weekend project that would last a lifetime. I can promise that the initial build was parts of several weekends and evenings!
As a result of my van accident I needed to 'reorganize' (actually I needed to CLEAN) my garage a bit to keep the tools that normally live in my van. My garage is, like many others, attached to the house and has never had a car parked in it. Lawn tools have long been moved to a shed in the back yard to make room for tools and bicycles.
In truth, my workbench has been in some sort of build state since I started it 15 years ago. As part of this current garage clean up I needed a place to store odds and ends from my van. I decided to finish a several year old drawer project on the right end of the bench and add a shallow drawer left over from a kitchen project underneath it. I actually finished those little projects! I should mention that a Shaper Origin followed me home from IWF early last month 8).... So I decided to use the Origin to create recessed drawer pulls on the incomplete drawers and the new, bottom drawer. I'm very happy with the results and learned a little about the Origin along the way.
As I finished up last evening I took a picture and thought I'd like to see how the bench has changed over the years and have posted the pictures below. I then thought it would be interesting to hear and see how your benches have evolved over the years.
2009, shortly after initial completion.

2014, added the center bank of drawers

2018 I started the drawer project on the right had drawers, you can see one of the drawers on the bench that was initially designed to hold my MFS400/700. I had added a 2 deep Systainer Drawer on the left end, as I recall I promptly lost a Systainer in the back.... [huh]

2024, the drawers on the right were completed and the bottom drawer added.
