Information for the members in Europe!

I noticed that there's a 100£ discount on the WS3000 (including the knife sharpener) at Rutlands, so the price is 219£. But only today!

...just wanted to let you know since it's a nice price  [smile]

I've had the WS3000 for a year and I love it!

Kind regards
Henrik

A very good deal indeed.
£208.95 including p&p in UK.

Offer till mid-night tonight - really, really tempted.

Been dithering for ages as which way to go with sharpening.
Been leaning towards W'shop Heavens' Scary Sharpening Kit + Richard Kell guide @ £118 + pp.

But Rutlands offer making me re-consider - lol.
Any thoughts ??

Richard.

(edit: only to be used for chisels, plane blades, kitchen knifes - no fancy turning / carving tools.)

Maybe my thoughts are a bit "coloured" by owning the WS3000 but I sure know what I'd choose.

I used to do it the "almost scary sharpening way" using the Veritas honing jig and stones + paper. But having 25+ chisels and 10+ planes it took me too long to sharpen by hand. Result = most of the time having a number of dull chisels lying around...and sometimes I was even using a dull chisel or plane  [embarassed]

Now I just switch on the WS, if the chisel or plane is just the slightest dull. Very easy and very fast!

In addition to the WS you can buy a set for wide chisels and plane blades including a flat top table and a honing jig. I dont know the price on those accessories since I made my own flat top table from a piece of plywood and use it with the Veritas jig.

As mentioned earlier I can recommend the Worksharp!

Kind regards
Henrik

Hrrb.
Thanks for your comments; also, thanks for your previous posts which I have always found
interesting and helpful.

Last couple of hours have looked more thoroughly at reviews / comments
of Work Sharp (across the net)and have decided to pass buying from Rutlands on this occasion.
Decision prompted by a post in another thread, regarding their Work Sharp over-heating (purchased from Rutlands.)

I sharpen free-hand using bench grinder + 'abrasive' paper to fine tune as required.
But, been thinking for some while that want to become more consistently precise with my sharpening – hence my leaning towards Scary Sharpening with Kell guide
Your response (and wide-spread ‘approval’ of Work Sharp) has definitely strengthened my
thinking might be right for me.

If you can find the time, would be interested in your choice of how to ‘camber’ plane irons with the Work Sharp – assuming you do of course.

Hi Richard

Sorry for my late reply [embarassed] I've been quite busy this week.

I did read the thread about the overheating WS. I must admit I was a bit surprised to read that the thermo-fuse (if it's called that in english?) shut down the machine at a temperature that low. It's quite normal for my WS to get warmer. I haven't checked the surface temperature but I'll do that next time. Last time I used it the motor was running for approx. 2 hours only switched off when changing abrasive....I was sharpening a new set of 11 chisels from Rutlands. The WS got pretty warm but it didn't shut down!

As for the cambering plane blades...I don't. I do understand why I ought to do it...but I don't!
However I did some rounding - let's call it 'soft cambering' - on the edge/corner of 2 of my plane blades. When finished sharpening on the WS I simply did the rounding on the edges by hand using a japanese waterstone. It worked okay for me...but then again I'm just an ignorant amateur  [big grin] Maybe I'd camber my plane blades if I were a professional. I've seen that Veritas has made a 'camber attachment' with a slightly curved roller for my  Veritas honing jig. Maybe I should buy it and give it a try! If I do I'll let you know.

Kind regards
Henrik
