Just got my hands on the festool work top jig not used it yet but just noticed that I have to use a 14 mm cutter, looked at the price of festools 14 mm cutter but the price is extreme .can I use a 12.7 mm on the jig ??????

welcome to the fog.
open your eyes jmb.

why do you have to use a 14 mm bit ,surly any size cutter will work. you are cutting the same amount off both sides witht he same offset.
i would try it with a 12.7mm if you have one handy adn see what happens

Like mentioned by festoolfootstool

But the festool cutter ain't that expensive as they are replaceable blades with two cutting sides on each blade.   Which works out cheaper than a trend 12mm cutter which you throw away after a few uses or spend time/money sharpening.

I have the festool worktop jig love it best worktop jig I have used by miles.  I got the kit which came with the replaceable cutter and the blades last ages.  Recommend it!

Dam dam dam you again!!!!! LoL just beat me to it!

LoL. I was writing a message!!

I don't think it will work with a smaller cutter not sure but I think it messes up the corner it works fine on the straight it's where it curves round it might not join perfect.  Not sure though.

Welcome H

JMB, didn't you once say you didn't like the jig because it only does 600mm wide tops & you have to slide it along to Finnish the cut ?  If it weren't for this I would have one but most the tops I do are 616mm tops from Howdens.

yes it is something I hate about the Jig  BUT  the last little bit it leaves is copied on both sides and that normally gets covered by tiles OR up stand so is not a problem.  When it is problem then its a simple mater of sliding the jig along!  The beauty about the jig is you clamp the MFS rail NOT the Jig so you can slide the jig with out the need to unclamp the rail so it stays where you want it.

but yes  I do HATE that its not designed for a worktop above 600  from the go ahead and requires you to adjust.

It can do worktops MUCH MUCH wider than any other jig very easily if required I just wish festool made it so it cut 620 with out moving the jig.  Saying all this if I had to buy another Jig it would still be the festool JIG.

Can someone give me the code number for the festool cutter can't seem to find it as I have just brought the jig and want to keep it all green cheers

I also use it with a 12.7mm cutter no probs, would be nice to have the jig  at least 20mm bigger and really needs a nice padded Festool bag to sit in but don't seem to make one?

I bought an Axminster/unika jig recently after using a trend combi jig for years. The unika multipurpose jig is the best I've used. It can be set to a 10mm joint as well as the standard 23mm inset. The 10mm looks much better on square edged or smaller radius tops. The bolt holes are much quicker too as the jig has 3 open ended holes so you can set the cutter depth to around 20mm then stay plunged and cut all 3 holes in seconds.

Yeah the festool one looks nice in shiny aluminium but it's out dated now days.

i use the big trend jig. never used a festool or unika jig,. never even seen a festool jig.

dunno about you guys but i use the midi vac on my router (makita) and after a couplea passes i hoover the cut out so it helps the cutter last. also i set the router depth and do the 3 bolts then drop it and do the 3 and then drop it again so i dont have to guess or anything and they all end up identical. does em canny quick like.

i also hoover the crap outa those aswell. 1 cutter lasts easily 2 mason mitres plus bolt holes. maybe theyll last longer if i try
