I've noticed that problem too.  However, that problem isn't due to Festool doing anything wrong.  I think its great that they put the videos on YouTube.  YouTube is a major marketing channel now.  It is like the library for things that were on TV or the movies.  It is on demand reference and advertising.  In this day and age it would be stupid for them to not be on YouTube.

As an example, a few hours ago there was a video for a RAS sander.  I had never considered buying one, and others probably didn't either.  But to see it demo'ed like that, who knows how many they sold off that short video.  I sure want one now.

The reason it is starting and stopping has to do with bandwith problems.  Lots of people using the internet where you live while you are trying to use it, or you have a slow connection.

According to recent stats, YouTube serves over a BILLION videos per day.  I think the site has been having some recent performance issues as reported on the web by many people.  There are thousands of "youtube buffering issues" search results from just the past 24 hours on Google.  It certainly could also be related to your bandwidth (internet connection speed).  Our videos are high definition which, while offering high quality, require higher bandwidth.

If it bothers you, click the play button and wait just a second and then pause the video.  Wait for the red line to completely load and then play the video without buffering.

we all want to see these great videos posted on youtube.
but theres always a minority that will never be happy.

I know that this isn't a forum that attracts many social scientists, but your poll contains loaded questions and is negatively biased.

The only time I seem to have issues with YouTube performance is when I have a number of apps open and running, otherwise it works fine.  My laptop is far from top of the line.  I think your poll needs more options, I'm perfectly satisfied with the site.  Videos are great and looking forward to many more being added.

I won't vote in the poll whereas it doesn't have a choice for what I would say.

Slightly off topic but possibly relevent - I use a site speedtest.net when I am having performance issues to see if my isp speed is off.  One thing that it does is create a history for me.  In the summer when we were having issues, I took it to the Comcast guys and showed them when issues were happening and proving that is was totally related to temperature.  The history proved that my performance had dropped tremendously.

I have no problems playing off youtube and I find uploading to be seamless.  I dont think there is a "better solution"  this one is 1 Free 2 Has a HUGE audience 3 easy to use 4 you don't have to host it yourself 5 the search works as well as the makers tags allow.  If anyone has a better choice out there I want to know.

Nothing wrong with YouTube. Right now it's the best platform to deliver streaming videos to your desktop. I have the buffer freezes too sometimes, probably like everyone else. But hey, the internet is still in development, you can't expect it to be perfect all the time.

Yup + 1 for you tube.  Like Shane said, hit pause & let it load.  I'm just glad to see Festool vids on youtube  [big grin]

I had trouble with extremely slow loading today when I tried to watch the cute kitty cats video that Dan Clark linked in his post about HD video and editing, etc.  I don't think the problem was due to my Road Runner Cable modem setup.  I wonder if it was due to some problem at FOG or simply because many people were trying to download that same video from YouTube at the time I tried.

Overall, I think it is a great addition to the resources Festool and FOG are making available to us!!

I completely quit using You Tube due to buffering issues, no matter what video or when I attempt to view it I have buffering issues. At first I thought it was my connection speeds...Not the case. I connected to You Tube at The Apple store, the college here, our library, my friends house....You Tube sucks.

I think YouTube is experiencing some recent growing pains.  Serving up over a billion videos a day takes a lot of bandwidth capacity.  Interestingly, they just added a new tool on their blog that allows users to measure their video download speed.  This may be a covert effort to collect data on distribution speed issues.  I have a 6MBps internet connection at home and I had never had issues with YouTube until the past month or so.  Like I said before, it seems like there is a lot of talk amongst YouTubers about recent speed issues.  Unfortunately, it's completely out of our control.  This is one of the primary reasons I use a reputable third party streaming video host provider for the videos on the Festool USA/Canada websites.

Funny this topic should come up. I finally got around to attaching my new BlueRay Disk player to the internet today. It has the ability to attache to NetFlix, You Tube, Pandora internet radio and Blockbuster. The only one that works from my location is You tube. My internet speed is typically between 440 and 768. Some days my PC will stream video with no interruptions. Today it does not. The Blue Ray/TV behaves the same way as the PC. I was able to watch a music video (great sound - so so picture quality) with no problem at all. Later on I streamed the same video as a demonstration - and it exhibited the stop go interruptions. The problem could be anywhere in the internet. The solution would be to be able to download the entire video first and then play it. The BD/TV does not appear to be able to do this - I have not had time to play with it fully. Sometimes I can get the computer to do this. Ergo I do not think this is a problem associated with a particular video, it is a basic problem with the entire process. Despite the advertised download speeds (between you and your ISP) there always seems to be somewhere in the pipeline to the data 'source' that slows things down.

Go into tools on your OS, delete temp files as well as cookies. See if that doesn't fix the problem.

I am pretty sure noone has dial up anymore, so I am sure this fix will take care fo your problem...

Shane Holland,

Thank you for your information about clicking the play button, and than pausing it to let the video load or what ever it does.

This is in responce to my recent rant about the youtube clips stopping and starting.  Piece has been restored.  Thanks, I learned something.

Poppawoody,
