10" Blades on Kapex?

Anyone have any experience running a 10" diameter blade (254mm) on the Kapex? We just launched a miter saw blade and had several requests for one for the Kapex. If it is just a matter of providing it with a 30mm arbor, that would be much easier than making them 260mm.

Jeff, FWIW...about 7-8 years ago, before Forrest offered blades for the Kapex, I called them & talked with Tony? about reboring the 2 each Forrest 10" blades I'd been using on Milwaukee sliders. He just flat out declined to rebore the blades and mentioned that there were issues with the outside diameter. That never made sense to me because there's only a 6 mm difference in blade diameter but he was emphatic about it.

Even now, they offer a 10" (254 mm) blade and a 260 mm Kapex blade.  Both blades have the same amount of teeth, the same tooth profile and the same kerf.  [tongue]

Two sides to this.

Will a 254 blade work fine (same/equivalent kerf and disc width, meaning a similar momentum to the blade disc) ?
YES. Physics does not have a brand.

Will Festool "support" using such a configuration under warranty of the saw and beyond ?
Unlikely.
For many reasons which have nothing to do with the /factual/ safety of the configuration I do not believe they will. There were many discussions on the same vis-a-vis the tracksaw blades. The core problem is that Festool (also) sells to "consumers" aka "unqualified" customers. So ANY statement they will make would have to cater for people who are presumed to not know what they are doing.

Either way, being you, I would first reach out to FestoolUSA for a comment on their position of a customer using a smaller dia blade provided by you. You may not get a friendly reply, but having one is still useful.

All things considered, pros will take what comes as they know their stuff anyway.
Hobby users .. and their insurance companies .. in a litiguous society like the American one .. sincerely wishing you luck!

Unless you've added a zero clearance rear fence that reduces the cutting length slightly, a 10 in / 254mm blade won't complete a cut. The geometry of the Kapex just won't allow for smaller blades.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know.

physically modifying a tool may cause warranty issues. Using different consumables will not as there is no way to know one was used.

We've got some 260mm plates on order. I'll let you guys know when we've built and tested a few.
