1010 accessories

Help on router info.  I just watched the Festool video of cabinet door construction.  The demo showed the use of MFK 700 being used to dado the grove for door panel with a table widening attachment.  I currently have a 1400 and 1010.  I have the attachment that allows the 1010 to be used as a trim router.  I do not have the table widening base. Can the 1010 be used to create the groove in rails and stiles if ganged to allow surface to ride upon.  In other words what am I missing by not having a MFK 700.  I can buy an edge guide for 1010 and table widener.  Trying to avoid the purchase of the MFK ?  Thank you

Sadly the OF1010 table widener was discontinued by Festool.

I think the OF1010 with a slot cutter bit can accomplish the task in question. Might need a small chisel to clean-out the corners of the rails and stiles, or, possibly add a radius on the corners of the panels that matches the slot cutter radius.

The 1010 should be able to do anything and everything the MFK700 does except trim edge banding as easy.  Thats NOT to say the 1010 cant trim banding they make a attachment to flip the 1010 over to is side for that exact purpose.  However the 1010 is more router than you need unless you are attaching wide solid hardwood edge banding.  The MFK700 primary purpose is made for trimming edge banding. Ideally 1/4" and under hardwood and 1-3mm edgebanding.  I think festool tried to make the MFK700 more than what it is to help justify the cost.  Sure it can do dado's and other things but it would not be my go to router for such tasks.  Its a smallish motor and intended for lighter duty work.  Mine lives in the horizontal base and is dedicated for trimming tasks.  Fear not your 1010 will do what you need.  You will just need to fixture your wood for the task you need.

I just got my 1400 this week and I was going through YT videos.  Found one by Paul Marcel and he went through the accessories.  To run grooves like you want, or similar, he added a second edge guide so both could sandwich the material to route your grooves.  Just another thought.

The 1010 with angle arm/horizontal base trims banding extremely well, especially thicker hardwoods.

Biggest thing you miss from a MFK is ergonomics and setup time. By the time I have dug up the angle arm, base, taken off whatever prior accessory was on the 1010 and dialed everything in, the guy with the MFK probably already has it back in the systainer.  MFK has some other niche roles and excels with laminate as well.

The MFK700 was the first Festool router I ever bought, but it was with the intent of using it for edging from day one. I got the zero degree base, did the Paul Mercel modification and it is always set up for that.
Later I also set up the 1.5 degree base, with a different bit, for PVC edging. The true beauty of the Festool system is in the accuracy/repeatability. I can install either base with the appropriate bit and just put it to the work. It can be trusted to be exactly as it was the last time.
I did buy all of the extra parts to go with the OF 1010, when I got it, just as a back-up, but have not needed it yet.
