Hi,

I just purchased my first Festool router in new condition off the classifieds. While I wait for it to arrive, are there any must have accessories for it?

The first job will be to use a guided round over bit to round over a 4' × 7' butcher block in place, so good dust collection is key.

I feel this is a an area that Festool could be more descriptive with their accessories and what they do.

Thanks

Do you have a CT?
For router use a cyclone is a good addition to infront of the vac since routing fills the bags quickly...

Which addons to the router depend on the intended use cases and the router itself, some more light on that might give better answers. I don't want to miss my CMS-OF and the MFS.

Yes I have a CT 36. I have a nice incra router table so I will only be using the 1010 for things that won't fit on the router table like the butcher block I mentioned and other table tops.

Over the years the scope of included items with the routers has changed.  Useful accessories to consider if you don't already have them is the edge guide and if you are ever going to do solid edging on shelves, etc. would be the trimming accessories that are being discontinued.  These definitely add versatility that you might find yourself wanting one day after they are all gone.

If you are likely to use the track guide and / or parallel fence, the respective micro adjusters would be worth considering.

there ya go, so you won't have to worry about dust collect..

Here's a link to what Peter was referring to, a nice tutorial from [member=1146]Brice Burrell[/member].
Some really nice accessories and they also fit a 1400 in case you decide to add that to your arsenal. Better be quick though, because Festool is phasing them out in the US and it's pretty slim pickings.

They used to have that set in a systainer. Way back, in 2005 or so.

But most of what you can do with that can be done with a router bit with bearing.

For a nice overview you could try to get your hands on the paper catalog. Dealers should have those. I used to pick one up every two years (that's how often they come out with a new one). Additions to that are released in separate booklets.

I just purchased the dust extraction hood and it definitely heightens the collection ability. I wish I had purchased it sooner.

Thanks for the info about the edging tools and the dust extraction hoods. That's the type of info I was looking for.
