10mm shank collets for OF2200/OF1400 routers

Festool makes bunch of different collets for its routers. Do you have plans to bring 10mm collet (p/n 494461) into NA? There are a lot of 10mm shank router cutters on the market, but collet is currently NAINA.  Is it possible to make special order?

Thank you,
VictorL

Victor, I doubt that we will offer it. This is the first time I've heard it requested in 7 or so years. One of our friends across the pond could probably hook you up.

Thanks Shane.

Amana makes inexpensive 10mm shank bore and router  bits for CNC machines and shapers. It includes dovel bores, euro cup hinges, etc. So you might get more requests for this in future. The problem is nobody knows that Festool makes it, and these bits are available.

I was looking for a 10mm collet as well...
How much interest is needed for festool to bring something over to the US?

Shane,

Victor L is absolutely correct. 10mm shanks are popular for CNC bits.

I own a lot of those for my CNC machines. Of course I also own an OF1400 and two OF2200. There are times it would be very convenient to use those 10mm shank bits and cutters in my Festool routers.

Perhaps this is the sort of topic all of us can discuss with the Festool executives at AWFS?

Shane, I agree with Victor. The reason you probably did not get many requests for this collet is that not many people know it was available...

Perhaps Festool could explore the possibility of permitting overseas dealers to sell products NAINA (and where there are no potential liability issues) to North American customers. It is not the first time that this question has arisen. I am thinking of certain sandpapers, drill bits, router bits, etc. not the big items like the CMS, vac sys etc.

Richard.

If a few of you guys want to get together and buy a few of these I can order them from my dealer and ship them all to one of you for redistribution

Manufacturers like Kennameatal and Sandvik make high precision reducing leeves that would allow you to use a 1/2 inch collet and a 10mm tool. These are NOT like the split sleeves you can pick up from some router manufacturers. They run true and hold very well. Go to their websites and look under tool holders/ collets/ reducing sleeves or something similar and you will be able to see what they have. They tend to be longer than what you want but they can be cut shorter with an abrasive wheel. There actually may be some shorter ones available to someone who wants to do the legwork. While I do agree that 10mm collets would be better and simpler, I have used these with zero problems with 10mm shanked endmills.
