I am thinking of investing in a domino xl but notice that Festool do not make the xl in a 110v version for the European market. I Was wondering if I were to get hold of a U.S. version of the xl would I be able to use a 110v plug-it lead and run it off a site transformer or would this not work?

I'm not a sparky, but when I moved to England I brought a lot of my 110 tools over, changed the plug ends and used them just fine. When I moved back to the states I brought 110 tools that I bought in England, changed the plug ends and still use some of them daily 4 years later. I know there's differences in the current yadayadayah, insert electrical engineering jargon here, but they worked.
Of course I'm sure warranties were voided, but the tools worked and I made a living, of sorts.

It should work no problem, I have a couple of American power tools and just changed the plug,  but I don't think UK 110V plug it leads fit American 110v tools. You can just change the plug end , small inconvenience not being able to swop lead between tools.

Thanks for the input guys, I did this with a dewalt table saw a good few years ago and it worked fine but had read a bit on the current difference between 110v we use and the U.S. but sound like happy days just need to source and ship a xl from the U.S. now may work out sweet if I can pick up the Seneca cutter adaptor and domi plates at the same time and combine the shipping/import. Anybody shipped festools from the U.S.? Any dealers you'd recommend?

FYI... No dealer is allowed to sell you a tool that is not allowed in the country of use or they risk loosing their Festool sales license....

That would be cool Tyler  [big grin], could you find out what the price is of the domino xl and the Seneca adapter and domi plates?

Hey I'm thinking of doing exactly the same with the xl just wondering how that worked out ?

Shipping and customs makes it expensive.  I think he chose a different route.  Offer stands on my end if your interested.

Please do not alter, adjust or adapt any electrical component of any machine - If done this is at your risk and will invalidate any warranty.

I understand
Just wondering why they don't do Curtain tools in 110v like the domino
Any idea if they are planning on realising one in 110v ?

Hi
For a 110v version a different winding is required and also a change to the electronic. I fully understand this is not ideal on the 110v platform but it is an area we raise often and it will improve.
However I am not aware if any current plans to release a 110v version of the XL - I also have a need for a 110v XL

Cheers for the offer to ship this over for me top man  [wink], but shipping and import duties made it not viable unfortunately [sad]. I ended up buying the xl in 240v with all 3 domino boxes inc cutters from Axminster tools UK when there new store opened near me and they had 10% off everything, I have since ordered the Seneca imperial gauge set and bit adaptor direct from Seneca so I now have all the bases covered. I think it is such a shame why all the range is not offered in 110v for the UK market as for site work it is a must to comply with a lot of companies health and safety policies.
If the opportunity arises in the future to buy a 110v version in the UK then I will probably make the trade.

Thanks Phil for the reply
Yer its a shame it's not 110v I suppose it is more of a workshop tool anyway but would be nice to have the option too also use on site

I agree it is more of a workshop tool but the offer the 500 in both voltages so can't see why the xl doesn't have the same option but maybe in the future.

I was just wondering the same thing and this thread has cleared it up. All my gear is in 110v and it's a shame I can't buy it in 110 as well so my extractor will work automatically on it.
