110v plug it hose

I've been using this site to gather information and to help me decide which bits of kit to buy for my particular needs for a while now but have just signed up.

My first question is regarding the 110v plug it hose which I'm being told by suppliers in the uk has been discontinued.
If I were to purchase the 240v version would I be able to remove the 3 pin plug and replace it with a 110v yellow plug and use it with my 110v Festool tools?
I'm thinking the plug-it end is the same for a 240v machine as it is for the 110v kit and the actual cables are just flex so switching these over would still work?
 
Welcome Paul,

The 110v version has a larger (higher current) cable, so if you did use the 240v one on 110v it would potentially overheat, as too much current would be flowing through it.

I wouldn't risk it. Just use separate hose and plug-it cable, and put them together in a braided sleeve. If you do a search for 'braided hose sleeve' it will get you lots of results. Here's one to get you started.

I wonder why they have discontinued the 110v version?
 
 
Paul,

I suspect your dealer(s) may be misinformed. There's no way the 110v Plug-It has been discontinued.

I would suggest you contact Festool UK if you need help finding one.

In the mean time, definitely do not attempt to Frankenstein together a cable. There is risk of damage to the machine and potential for fire doing that.

I've tried ordering it from two different suppliers, one being Axminster, and having the same result.
It shows it on their website but when ordered they ring me and say it's discontinued.

Ive ordered from Nuts & Bolts who I've ordered a lot of gear from. Couldn't find it on their website myself.

Excellent. I only found it by doing a search for plug it hose and it brought up the 110v/ 240v versions.

Some items are hard to find for festool on a lot of sites, nothing seems to be in an order we are used to finding items in normally.  [unsure]
 
UPDATE

I've just been on the phone with N&B about my order which was placed last night.  They rang Festool Germany whilst I was on the phone who told them that they have none in stock and have none in production.
I don't quite understand why they would stop producing this item as surely I'm not the only person who wants to purchase one?

I want to apologize. When I read the title of the post with the word "hose", I just thought to myself that it was a terminology thing or something. I forgot that there's a hose with the cord in it in Europe. We don't have that here. I did confirm with Festool UK that the hose with integrated cord has been discontinued with no replacement. Sorry.

No need to apologise.  Thank you for a definitive answer, albeit not the one I wanted. For the first time as a Festoolian I feel dissapointed... Changed my order to a 'la stopper', all is good and green again.  [big grin]
 
Last post from OP was removed. We do not recommend augmenting the power cords as it is an unsafe practice and could result in damage to the tool and/or fire hazard.

I wasn't suggesting connecting the leads together permanently, just using one to pull the other one through, as a 'draw wire', then disconnecting if that makes sense?
 
Paul i have just had a thought. There is a thread on here about some aftermarket sleeving for the hoses.
It comes in various diameters, so just wondering if that combined with a standard plug it lead could get you what you want. :)

I've already got what I wanted by converting a 240v plug it hose to a 110v plug it hose. It's quite simple really but I think Shane read my post wrong or more likely, I explained it poorly. The 240v cable is used as a draw wire to pull the 110v plug it through the hose thus completely removing any trace of the 240v cable.

Ahhh ok  cool. I didn't see the post Shane deleted.
 
They will still have to make them, remember the USA and Canada are 110V.
There could possibly a supplier not be able to get something they need or maybe they are changing suppliers. That sort of thing does happen in industry.
