The dust collection attachment on the 1400 doesn't work, whatsoever, when using any sort of flattening or mortising bit when you have to rest the base above the surface of the work piece.  100% of the chips were exhausted out the side.  Spend $1000 on dust collection and is completely useless with the tool that creates the most waste.

If you can’t keep the bit encapsulated so dust can only get into the collection hose, it will find any other path out.  You can mitigate this by planning your cut so the dust can’t escape under the base until the very end.  Flattening work is pretty much hopeless unless you create your own dust management like you see in CNC machines.  But something like that benefits from a high CFM dust collector to really be effective.
