Well,I have had it now for two weeks. First thing Kudos to the TOOLNUT, they shipped it on July 1 and I received it on July 2 . Couldn't ask for any better service.
So far The driver has not let me down, I have driven from 1 1/4 No. 6 screws up to 2" x 1/4' lag screws with no pilot hole with no problem I like the speed settings, they seem to give you more control of the screw. I have to admit the impact is alittle annoying, however with the right speed setting and good trigger control the impact is minimal .As I said earlier I put it up against the Milwaukee 18 volt surge. I would say it was a tie with both having separate qualities . Good Job Festool .

My festool impact driver is no louder than the Makita 18v that I have used for years. Going to sell the Makita. The only way to get a noticeably quiter is to go with the newer hydraulic models but you sacrifice power too. In my experience if noise is a serious concern for you then you probably should wear heesring protectors while using or avoid impact drivers all together.

How are you all putting the Festool impact over Makita and Milwaukee (the two best on the market)? I sent the TID18 back because it was the worst impact driver I have ever used. Did I get a lemon?
I have Makita 18v impact driver and the new Festool Driver. I love the festool. I like the control of the driver speed and the metal stud setting. It feels great and I love the ability to use "generic" bits. The Makita is now a surplus tool if friends need to barrow a driver. I wish it had been released earlier. I also have the 15v impact festool drill that I also love. This is better.

So, my tid 18 was determined to be the lemon of a bunch. The dealer compared it to the rest of their stock on hand and it was apparantly horrible in comparison. Which, I can confirm, the TID 18 I received was garbage. I'm wondering what Makita models you all have because I just can't imagine a good example of the Festool would trump something like the XDT12 or XDT16. Y'all keep bringing up the Teks mode and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw an impact driver without a Teks mode other than my Bosch. Heck, my Makita has two or three Teks modes and an auto stop reverse clutch.
I dug through my local dealer's pallet of new Festool drills/impacts today and I'm going to be point blank: The drills are not the same as the one's I've owned for some time. The PDC's were glaringly obvious about what steps they skipped at the factory (seams used to be flush with no "burr"). The T18's I couldn't put a finger on, but the PDC's were just... yeah, no. They all felt inconsistent with each other and hastily "slapped togeter". I used to be the flag waver for Festool drills (that electonic clutch, the precise control) but with what I saw with my own eyes, today, I will not recommend their drills and coin flipping with their impact is just ridiculous.

Compared to other brands, with pricing and selling points in mind Festool has disappointed me on two of my new tool purchases. I did ask a dealer about this recently and they confirmed that on some products they where not happy with final control before packaging. There are signs of economy-run business which takes over engineering and marketing for the sake of bottom line income. It may work short term, and boost margins, but could be disastrous long term. These are my observations though.
There has been suspiciously many TID18 for sale on the second hand market here, almost all “unused”, and only tested. I wonder why, because it’s too many advertised. There might be many reasons. But consider also that Makita’s and Milwaukee’s top of the line models costs less than half of the TID18. Most of us buy Festool tools that gives us “more” than the competitors. But what happens when there’s only the battery platform that differs, and up to two thirds higher pricing.

well I have used 18v impact driver for awhile now So far it has driven everything I have asked it to, from 3/4" sheet metal screws to 6" timber frame screws. I have to admit it is noisy i think the object is to know the right time to let off the trigger. I recommend driving a lot of all types and sizes to find out what mode is best, to establish a learning curve. I am satisfied with the tool. For some things I still use the Milwaukie but even that is getting less and less.

My TID18 that I purchased on day 1 of European release has been perfect. But nothing I wouldn’t expect form a nice Makita. The fit and finish is in line with my other festool drills, but a C18 I bought this year resembles some of what YettiHuntter said about poor fit and finish. I really hope festool don’t let their drill quality slip long term! I love them so
