I recently created the following page to post in a prominent place in the shop:

[attachimg=#1]

The list evolved in a thread on the Canadian Woodworking forum.  That thread started with Rick Thom's post of a set of 10 truths from the October 2002 issue of Fine Woodworking.
I expect that this is an evolving list and that I will modify it, so let?s have some words of wisdom from the folks here.

Having looked again at the clip art on this page in the context of this forum, I guess that I should not have shown a table saw.  :-[ In the next couple of days, I will look for some Festool clip art, replace the table saw with something more appropriate, re-print the page hanging in my shop, then re-post here.

Frank,
  Welcome back. I think you should leave the  table saw as a remnder of just how much the Festool Plunge Saw and guide rail can do...and Frank, the TS fence is way out of alignment. Be careful using it... "kickback" waiting to happen.

I have to keep reminding myself of #16.

#14 is easy to remember, I see proof of it almost every day.

Here is a version with a Festool saw and with the chande to 'your' from 'you'

14 and 16 are my favorites on that list.

My personal list of rules is really short.

#1. Take your time.  I get hurt or have a near-miss if I rush.  I've been VERY lucky and someday it will run out.

#2 Stop when you're tired.  I make a lot of mistakes when fatigue sets in.  When I was in my 20's I'd just keep banging away if I was tired and you can look back and tell it sometimes.  :-\

Steve

Steve, your #1 is also #1 on the list I posted.  I like your #2 but, unfortunately don't follow it as well as a should.  Last Sunday evening, I was working when I should not have been and made 5 distinct mistakes on the item that I was making.  :-[.  It took me about 4 hours the next day to compensate for the mistakes.

I expect to update the list to have 25 items.  If I do, "Stop when you're tired" will certainly make the list.
