Hi

I just register to FOG.

I look to buy a CT36 with a TS55 and OF1400. The dealer ask me if I want to stay with the 27mm hose or upgrade to the 36mm.

What are you recommend.???

For routing I would get the bigger hose for sure -- it will not clog as easily and it will provide more airflow to remove the bigger chips.  It also works better with the TS saws, planer and Kapex.  The smaller hose is great for sanders and the only option for the smaller Festool routers.

PS - Welcome to the FOG!

I'd suggest that you get the 3.5m long, d36 hose AND a short section of d27 hose (450mm long or so) as an adapter to step the hose down to fit those Festools that require a 27mm hose.  The adapter whip will fit right into the 36mm hose.  Bob Marino sells them.

Hi,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

Definitely go with the D36 hose for the OF1400 it makes a big difference on the router. It helps a little on the TS55 but is not crucial.

The D36 is also better for any floor clean up.

+1

Get a 36mm hose and the rubber nozzle end of a 27mm. The 36 fits over the 27mm nozzle.
No need to get a 27mm hose.

I dismissed my dealer's recommendation of the 36 mm hose for the OF1400 when I bought as well.

To my dismay.

The 27 mm hose would clog up when routing.

So yeah, listen to your dealer. He is right, as mine was.

Use the 36 mm for the router. It makes all the difference in the world.

I find the 32mm hose too stiff for use with the TS and fine routing applications.  I have both hoses and use the 27 for the TS and most routing applications.  I use the 32 for the Kapex and clean up.  I like the earlier suggestion of the larger hose with the small hose extension - I'll have to give that a try.

I was thinking about the length of the whip after previously suggesting ~450mm.  I just measured the one I made at 625mm overall which is much better since it has more flex than the d36 main hose as Davee mentioned.

Not to hijack this but I was thinking of getting a 36 mm hose for my Mini but it is not shown in the Mini accessory list. I'm sure I read somewhere on the froum that you could use a 36 mm with a Mini. Yes or No?

Thanks

Yes you can - my mini is connected to my Kapex with the 36 mm hose.  The 27 hose with the mini has a 90 degree extension to aid in positioning it.  However, the 36 hose can connect directly.

For anyone who finds the 36mm hose too stiff for the TS or OF - try supporting the weight of the hose from the ceiling of your workshop. I have an elastic bungee cord stretched between two clips on my ceiling. The hose goes over the top of the bungee and then down to the tool. The bungee gives a little when required and is smooth enough to let the hose move a bit as well.

I am sorry that I have no photograph to show me doing this but I am sure that it must feature in at least one of my videos!

This must be the ultimate poor man's boom arm.

[welcome] to The FOG Pierre A

I am so glad that when I bought my first TS55 and CT22 (that was 2006) a very experienced furniture happened to be at my dealer. He recommended that I also buy the 5m x 36mm AS hose, because it improves dust collection of the TS saws (the TS75 was not available then) and more important, the 36mm hose is far less likely to hang-up on the rail. You are sawing in a straight line, so a stiffer hose is a benefit. I bought my 36mm hose as part of a cleaning kit and am glad I did.

I seldom use my OF1400 router, preferring the OF2200, but on both I use the 36mm AS hose.

I do use the MFK700 and the OF1010 routers many times a day. Only the 27mm hose fits them and provides all the dust collection needed. With the small routers, as with the sanders, you want a flexible hose.

All the Festool sanders need the 27mm hose and needs no more suction.

The Domino500 and the jigsaws also only work with the 27mm hose.

Hi everybody,

I want to thanks you for the prompt answer to my question.

I think I will update to the 36mm x 5m and I hang it over my cutting bench.

The 36mm hose is really stiff when new but as it is used it becomes more flexible.  I also found that laying the hose in direct sunlight until it gets hot and then stretching it speeds  this process, and can add a little bit of length also.

Just wanted to note that if you are looking to buy a 36mm anti static hose you might also want to look at the Tradesman / Installer Kit (497700) $222.00 US.  The hose by itself (452882) sells for $145.00 US.  The systainer 4 (445597) sells for $80.00 US.  That is already more than the entire kit and you get all the nozzles and wands for free.

Honestly this is great deal with a savings of $192 over buying separately.

When I bought my CT26 with TS55 combo and ETS125, I went with the 27mm hose knowing that the Ridgid universal hose I bought at Home Depot fit the TS55 and OF1400.  I used the money to buy the 75" guide rail instead because I cut 5x5 baltic birch.
