I wanna make a short film to display on a cinema screen at my local cinema.

I gave them a call and they said they will be happy to display the short clip I wanna play on the big screen.

Only thing is they said  they cant accept CD's or harddrive or SD cards it has to be a 35mm film.

Now I need some help here how do I get a short clip/video onto a 35mm film?

Cheers jmb

Just done a research and found most cinemas have gone digital  But my local cinema has not which is very very odd as its pretty new not long been built.

Talking to my dmt guy as we speak. Essentially, you have to project your digital image and re record it onto film. There may be some special equipment out there to do it but you're pretty much gonna have to hire a professional either way. might not be cheap either.

I ended up not doing it GhostFist.

I called round spoke to a SUPER nice guy who rents out film cameras.   The camera for Rent for one day was £250+   I asked him what I needed to know and  he kinda laughed and said you've got a lot to learn.

After a bit of explaining he told me I was best off just using a digital video camera my self preferably a HD one and get the digital format converted into film.

He said there is about the same amount of work to process a film recorded with a film camera  than converting a Digital format into Film but I save money on hiring a film camera.

He even sent me a txt like he promised once we ended our conversation over the phone of a company who might convert digital.

Well...... for a 30sec film it would cost me £1800 +   [eek]

Well I might love my Girlfriend but spending £1800+  on a 30sec film to propose to her is a bit to far lol.

they said they would do a a still 30sec film for £450  which I thought not to bad.

but as it turned out after asking the cinema to make sure if I get this film made it will work!  I end up getting a reply telling me im not aloud to use the cinema screen to display my video clip!!   [mad]  even though when I asked few weeks before they told me it was okay!

The money saved I bought her a nice ring  [wink]

Whoa, was I late to respond on this thread? Must have missed it originally.regardless, congrats on the engagement wish you the best! I didn't get an opportunity to talk to or camera opps as we had to pack up and move across town for our next scene.probably would have been easier to ask another cinema with modern tech,e don't even shoot in film any more.

Yes congrats.. its a slippery slope with reagrds to maintaining automomy over your toll purchases though!  ;D

Congratulations JMB.
Are we now going to get a video?
We all know you are in a fog right now, but are we going to get a FOG video?  [popcorn]

Yeah I thought about using another cinema but

1. I wanted to use my local cinema.
2. The manager seemed dead help full and friendly  untill he gave me the bad news.
3.  Because I was given the go ahead with my local cinema that I could use their screens I thought no point asking the other cinemas as they are much larger cinemas and thought im pretty sure they would say no any way.

I did find it odd as my local cinema screen is the newest cinema screen around my entire area  but yet they use film as most/all?? are digital now around my area.

Presumably she accepted your condition that it had to be a green wedding rather than a more traditional white wedding  [big grin]

Sorry man, I saw it late as well. The best thing for you to do would have been to craigslist an ad or check in at the local Uni with a film program, you could have gotten someone to do almost all that stuff as a project for themselves. AFA the cinema goes, you could have purchased time on the screen just like any other advertiser, so next time, ask them what it costs to advertise.
