Hello,

I need to drill some 35mm holes in cabinet doors, in the past I've used a 35mm forstner bit in a cordless drill. It gave acceptable results but I know it will be easier and neater using one of my routers and a 35mm router bit.
This isn't something I do very often and I'm not willing to splash out £50+ on the festool 35mm router bit because I can't justify the expense, so my question is will this bit ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trend-T420-35X8MMWS-Cylindrical-boring-bit-35mm-WS-/231467097612?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 ) be acceptable using a 8mm collet?

Cheers.

It's not suitable.

The reason the Festool one is so expensive is because it is made to go in a router where even the slowest speed is likely to be around the 10,000 RPM mark. The trend one is made for pillar drill with a maximum speed of probably no more than 2500-3000 in most cases. Try to put the Trend bit designed for pillar drill speeds in a router and you're asking for a nasty accident.

I use this one , the 1835-8 one in my of1010 Set to speed 1 with a homemade jig to set it in place. You could just use the side fence but my jig has location marks and can be clamped to the door.

I used it yesterday and today for some wardrobe doors. It will do a full height door with 5 hinges in minutes and there's no dust at all when used with my midi

Not sure my link above is working don't know why but its saying "bad gateway" on tapatalk.  just go to wealden tools look under drilling then boring then hinge boring. These cutters are for use in a router are high quality and only £27

Your better off buying the Festool bit.  Its going to be quality bit that lasts for years.  I also did research to find a cheaper solution but the magority of forstner bits are not designed for high rpm's that routers produce.  Another option is buying a 35mm zobo bit.  It will give you great cuts and you can use it in a drill.

The wealden cutters are easily as good as festool ones for quality but a lot cheaper.

Once again these are designed to run in a router !
