Hi all new member here just got my new cordless plunge saw in the post today just a few questions I've never had a festool plunge saw so I noticed when the saw is sat in the track the blade hots the rubber splinter guard is this the first time you use it it cuts the guard so it's close to the blade ? And I've noticed at the front of the machine there's a clear plastic insert which can be swapped over for a green one what's this for many thanks

First of all, Welcome to the FOG!  Tons of great info on here.

to answer your questions:  yes, the first thing you need to do is trim the plastic splinter guard on your track. This creates the zero clearance effect on the track side of the cut.  As for your second question, the green insert creates a support on the outside of the blade, so along with the splinter guard on the track, the wood is supported on both sides of the blade.  If the off-cut piece is unimportant, you can use the clear window insert to better see the blade as it cuts.

Hope this answers your questions

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

And after the first cut you will be able to set the edge of the anti-splinter strip right on / at the mark for your cut. No need to factor in any offset.

If you are new to the TSC 55, search the FOG for the TS 55 supplementary guide. Although this guide is for the TS 55 all the info you need will be in there and most of it is relevant to the TSC 55.

These guides are really well written and worth reading for any new tool you purchase, they have all the info that the original instruction manual that comes with the tools missed out on.

make sure the saw sits snug on the rail before you cut. There are 2 green dials on the base plate of the saw that are used to ensure a tight fit.

Ok so every time I use the saw I need to turn the two green buttons clockwise ? Thanks for the replies guys most of you seem to be from USA

Do most people use a limit stop or is one of them things where the maker says you need it but most people don't use it ?

Only necessary once. Tighten so the saw slides easy without any play.

Ok I've watched both videos Phil recommend thanks a lot Phil helped a lot am I right in saying you don't trim the splinter guard the whole length of the track ? Sorry to be a pain

Ok thanks for the help I think I'm all ready now to set the saw up and start using it I will be mainly be using it for kitchen fitting filler panels cutting work tops and cut outs for hobs and sinks

......but make sure the front and rear cams do not come off the rail otherwise it will be  [eek] time!!
The base of the saw needs both cams to stay 'true' on the rail - you normally see that the ends of the splinter guard are not cut.
