3D Printing On This Old House

We have had some three D printing threads  before, but seeing this in action is really something. It is really, really cool!

The home owner works in the business, and has "printed" the entire house and addition (scale model size) that will be added.  It comes out in full color.  Some other neat items are shown too.

If you havn't seen it be sure to check it out.  I could see this leading to being able to download purchased products someday.

big truck pulls up with 3d printer and you load your google sketch up into it and voila a printed house. just remeber to flip the image to be right way up lol

We have a couple machines similar to this in our model shop at work.  I believe we have one that works with metal powder as well as the ones that use plastic.  Very cool stuff.

I'm pretty sure we have one that uses metal.  We either have one or they're talking about getting one.  I'll check with the head of model shop and verify.

I saw that This Old House episode and thought, now that is really cool... this just elevates that thought to WOW!

That episode was really interesting, especially the 3D  printing.  The price tag on those printers must be  [scared]  through the roof, though.  Then again, when I bought my first laser printer in '89, it cost $1,800.  Today I can get one with far more capabilities for $150.

Just checked with the head of our model shop and we don't currently have a 3d printer that works with metal, but are getting ready to buy one.

Sorry for the delayed follow-up, but just got back from the 2 day router class in Lebanon.  What a blast !!!
