$159 right now vs $295. They have 24 left at this price.

This has been on my wish list for some time, was glad to snap one up. Still spendy, but much easier for me to justify to myself at $159.

Looks like they do these flash sales quite regularly, so worth monitoring the site if you have your eye on something.

Note: I apologize if this is the wrong place for this post (mods, feel free to move and/or admonish if there's a better place for it!)

[member=75208]Chainring[/member] I have their planes and while I like the little block plane but I am not a fan of the larger ones. Lie Nielsen or Veritas are superior even if they aren't as cool looking.

Some of John's planes have looks too futuristic for me, and I never have had a desire to get any of them. I do own his stainless steel straight edge (24" long?). I visited his place with a few others a decade ago, and he was a friendly fellow, taking time to show us a few things.

The ONLY item that I'd love to acquire from his collection (long discontinued) is the marking gauge released in 2005 or so.

Pricing is idiotic.  I think it changes hourly.  Same as on Harvey stuff.  You sneeze and price changes

Just a guess. I think they follow the pricing practice or model adopted by many Chinese merchants which constantly adjust their product prices in response to inventory, market competition and costs. Sometimes, Amazon does that, too, perhaps based on some algorithm.

The image looks like a rendering.  If they have 24 in stock, why would they not have a photograph?  I am just curious.

Amazon allows for this, from what I understand, but I don't know if it's set within the Amazon listing system directly, or if the seller just has their own backend algorithm set up for this.  Some products are more volatile than others, just take a look at camelcamelcamel some time.

I still remember the story about the textbook and two rogue pricing algorithms in 2011...  Seller 1 had a textbook, Seller 2 didn't have the textbook but was planning to re-sell it from Seller 1 if someone chose to purchase it.  Seller 2 had their price set at 127% of Seller 1 to allow for profit, Seller 1 had their price set at 99.83% of Seller 2 to undercut the competition without leaving too much money on the table.  This turned a simple textbook into a $23M listing before someone figured it out and fixed the price.

Looks like Sedge got in on this flash sale deal 😂

Did a really helpful walkthrough

IMHO, I still would not buy it at full price, but am very happy to have one.

Mine came in. Very nice. Haven't had a chance to use yet but should work out well. Also ordered a couple of the small squares on sale.

Price is $179 today.  I am tempted..  I ordered one :-)

It arrived last week, and is very nice.  I like that you can use it to the edge of the board.  One use I plan for it is to align the Domino fence to have the mortice centered in the wood.  This will be an improvement over my previous approach of measuring and marking the wood.

It comes with a small 1.5mm hex key to adjust the scribes.  I got a Wiha 96315 Precision Hex Metric Screwdriver to use with it.  Makes it easier to adjust the scribe, and less likely to loose the small hex key.

I tried emailing Bridge City asking about how to use it on tapered stock (described on their web page, but not in the manual). No response  :-(

The fluctuating pricings do seem a bit random, don’t they?

I just missed out on the recent reduced-price offers, on a rather larger, costlier item.
But I’d ordered via a UK dealer who stocks some BCT items, and I was able to take advantage of a pre-Christmas discount offer for existing customers - also I thus didn’t have to deal with possible import duties myself, or the considerable trans-Atlantic shipping costs (or have the prospect of chasing up shipping delays, or any possible shipping-induced damage). Overall, having BCT’s offer price might have been cheaper, but I’m fairly happy I did it this way.

Thus far, I’ve had impressively prompt responses to email enquiries to Bridge City.
