I have an OF2200 router as I am ordering a 1/4" collet to work with most of the bits I have until I phase them out, is there any practical reason to get the 8mm collet? I already have an OF1400 with an 8mm collet.

The 1400 collet will fit.  Save your money.

Yeah I know the 1400 collet will fit but:
1. it takes a different size wrench
2. both routers may not be on the same site at the same time

My thinking was: do we really even have 8mm bits here in the states? I have the LR32 which are 8mm bits and the OF2200 don't work with that. So is there really a need (for me) for that router with that collet at all?

Sorry for my misunderstanding of intent.  8mm router bits are rare here.  Check out the Festool availability and see how many are available and would use as an example.

For the 2200, I know of no reason to have a 8mm collet for it. For the 1010 and 1400 yes as these can be used woth the LR 32 kit which has 8mm bits

LEIGH has lots of 8mm shank bits.

Not that you'd really want to use a 2200 on a dovetail jig.

Rob Lee at LeeValley has a good selection of 8mm shank bits too. Many of them Festool.
