Question on the LR32 system.

I built a set of shop cabs, upper and lower, using the 32mm offset. Everything came together fine. For my 'stretchers', if that's what they are called, I used 5mm dowels and each stretcher was centered on the holes drilled with he LR32 system. I used Accuride slides for that project.

I am now building a bathroom vanity using Blum Tandem slides. My question is 2-fold.

1) What are the benefits to the various offsets for the LR32 system. I know the 9.5/16/32 come with the set. I believe the 12.5 is recommended in the Blum Pearls. Any better than the other? Any better for Tandem slides?

2) For the stretchers, how do people typically attach these to the carcass on layout?

Let me know if any questions.

Apologize if this is in the wrong forum - please let me know if I need to move.

Thanks,

Levi

Anyone have any info to share?

I’ve been working on design with tandem slides - can’t get everything to jive with the 32mm layout. I understand horizontally, the 5mm hole locates the slide fore/aft within the carcass.

But vertically, if I place the slide on layout, and then attempt to place a ‘stringer’ (again, not sure of proper term) above/below the drawer, it conflicts with the specs in the Blum tandem literature.

Do you need to put the stringer in above and below drawers, or is it not required?

Please let me know if you follow my question or if I can expand...

Thanks. Levi

The reality is you just bore your holes at whatever offset you want and make the applied drawer faces to fit. Usually 32mm offset because if you do 16mm the first hole will be covered up. I struggled reading through everything on Blum Process32 and wanted to design my cabinets around them to place the stretchers on 32mm centers with Tandem slides.

If you were to try to use 32mm system for vertical placement of the drawers and stretchers you 'could' do it using Blum Process32 if you stick to their given examples and don't stray but it just isn't worth it. I think you need custom 3d printed offsets to use their system. Make your cabinet sides a multiple of 32 and work up from the bottom when placing your Tandem slides. Your drawer faces will cover everything up and you can work out how big they need to be to allow for an even reveal if you're doing European frameless.

I skipped the stringers as you call them. They aren't really needed. Settle up on a drawer dimension you like. I went with 6". There will be varying size gaps between each box within the cabinet, no big deal. Place the slides as evenly as you can and fit the applied faces to the boxes with even reveals.

You can look through my thread Home Office Remodel to see how it all came together.

Ask more questions if you have them

Matt

Just do yourself a favor and forget about the stretchers in a drawer bank.  They’re not really necessary and it will make your life a lot easier.

Just an FYI don't forget to notice if you're going to use domino connectors, they want the first set of holes at min 10mm, rather than 9 (or 9.5?) specified by system32......  [scared] [eek]
