A couple of doors I built this week. Got the job on Monday, finished items had to be in Cleveland by Friday (today).

Seeing as this is an international forum. Asian Mahogany was speced for this anyone, have any info on it. Can't find it here.

Only 270 more to build.

The 500 with 10x50 tensions. I don't have an XL. Maybe if this goes forward. I have to built another 270 of these.

270!?!  What are they for?

a domino xl would be great for this.
if you have 270 of them , that is less than 4 dollars a door to pay for the domino xl

Very cool design and wonderful execution, Tom. The panel looks 3-D.

sorry didnt realise i hadnt posted on this before my last post.

great design.
i like the method for cutting the veneers.
the veneer press looks good. is there weights in the top box or is it just a torsion box. i will remember that for the next time.

i like the pic of the veneer curling up . it looks like the piece is unfolding to reveal whats inside

Very nice, Tom.  What finish did you use on them?

[smile]

The color is a mix of 5 Trans Tint dyes. I had to blend so many because the color sample sent to me was on rift/quartered white oak. I was able to get the color, but they were informed that the black darting would not exist because of the materials dissimilar characteristics.

The top coat is General Finishing ploy. If this job does come through, I will use SW Kem Aqua A96 spray/wipe stain, mixed to match a sample. The top coats will be SW Kem Aqua Plus CC-F62 MRE with a gloss unit of 55-59.

To interpit---------I hope Tom gets the job, then he'll order a Domino 700.

What Mr. Bellemare does not know is, I borrowed a Kapex, UG stand and an RO 90 to do the prototype. Nobody tell him, it will be a surprise for him when I place the order.

Now we have 2 people hoping I get the job.

The 240 vanities that go along with these doors would be good to get also.

Tom,

Really cool project.  It will be interesting to follow along once you get it (fingers crossed for luck) how you deal with the logistics and volume.  Hope that you keep us informed!

No weight in the table except self weight. Just a torsion box, that table has seen and traveled to  a lot of jobs in the 5 years since I built it. It really saved my but this time. The 2 halves are held together with a couple of window sash latches.

I did not want to use contact adhesive, so I opted for TB III. More open time than II, less open time than II Extended. This allowed me to get everything placed and clamped.

I had to be really careful with the layout. The panel inserts 1/2" into each of the rails and styles. I had to make certain that the corners of the reversed diamond would line up with the corners of the rails and styles. I had to adjust the rail inboard on the short bias to make this happen. I used the centerline of the panel to make it all work.

Over at JLC, a few of the members have veneer fabricators they deal with. There is one that looks really promising.

Logistic, glad mom and dad have a 42x60 pole barn they're not using since they sold their motorhome.

Breaking the news to the wife about funding this project will be the highlight of the entire undertaking.

Tom,

I am not a veneer guru at all.  If you have never visited you should check out another forum also.  Not as active as we are, but specialized.  Vacupress.com

Awaiting the progress.  You deal with the fireworks!

Just curios how you landed a job like that ?  Wouldn't that normally go to a large workshop !  Nice job to get though  [thumbs up]

The mill work shop they contracted dropped the ball. Called Eric to have him do this, he called me to handle it.

Most large shops, didn't start out that way. I have yet to fail on any project, not about to start on this one. To much potential for future business.

I'll post pics of the cubbies tomorrow.

Congratulations on getting this project...I am sure you won't have much time to post the details when you get underway, but like Peter says, it would be great to understand the logistics and financing as you go.
I was interested, so I looked up Navy Island after someone (Ottoman) on JLC suggested them, it's quite the story. Apparently they had an employee who was recently charged with stealing over 600K from them.

I am sure it will be easier than it would be without an order. I have found these discussions go a bit smoother when you have a customer with a down payment when you are having these discussions. The chief finance officer (wife) is kinda reluctant otherwise.

[attachthumb=#]The drawing I received. Simple cubbies, more than a vanity.

The finished unit. I hope to install this Wednesday of Thursday. Weather permitting to travel back to Cleveland, and arranging for a delivery of the flush pulls for the doors. If I can get same day delivery out of PA. I'll go Wednesday early. If not I'll leave Wednesday mid-day. It's a hotel, I should be able to find a someplace to stay.

Tim,

I wonder if that is why I never heard back from them. I remembered, that I forgot I know someone who works for a company that does this type of work. They'll be happy to fab the panels for me.

The logistics I'm not concerned about, for now at least.

To get the best discount, I will have to order all the material at one time. Still deciding if that is the way I'll go. Wife is not happy about the risk.
