A couple of doors.

The finished unit.

Looks good.

I wonder if that is why I never heard back from them.
Doubtful, it takes a while for those cases to wind their way through the system so they probably have been out of pocket for sometime and they are still buying robots so all can't be that bad.

I remembered, that I forgot I know someone who works for a company that does this type of work. They'll be happy to fab the panels for me.
That's good. Always better to work with a motivated vendor/partner than one that's too big to do the job.

To get the best discount, I will have to order all the material at one time. Still deciding if that is the way I'll go.
As long as the cancellation fee covers you for the materials etc. I would definitely do it otherwise if it were me I would buy in batches based on delivery schedule.

Wife is not happy about the risk.

They never are. The riskiest thing my wife has done was marry me.  [big grin] She thought it would end there...
I know banks in Canada will only finance with collateral to cover, which scares my wife. How are the US banks on these kinds of transactions?
Any interest from your vendors in partnering to spread the risk or extending credit?
I suppose you could finance through factoring but I think that's a bit expensive.
Tim

I'm still deciding on the material. I need to make the decision prior to my proposal. The hardware should not change that much, but the woods, being a commodity item could vary drastically.

I believe the banks here would also require collateral. I'm fortunate to be in a position where I do not need to involve a bank. I run all this by the wife so she can't say I didn't tell her, ultimately it is my decision. If it goes bad, that's something I'll have to live with.

I was going to install these items right after Christmas, found out they never ordered the door track. Johnson is a week out due to the holiday. Maybe I will get those 3 Christmas presents done by the 29th.

I am sure the only thing that will suffer is a loss of free time.

It always, seems to me anyway, that it hard to rely on suppliers around Christmas. It's always problematic for getting work done and delivered.

[big grin] Good luck with that. Merry Christmas.

tom great job and amazed that the doors are flat !  they look bumped out.. good luck on project.... if they need any bead board let me know

Best part is 2 hours ago I found out they're the wrong size. Whoooooo---hoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! Truck is loaded and ready to go, we're past the point of remake or no return.

If there are any members near the Cleveland airport (or the Cleveland area in general), please send me a PM with contact info. I may need a supplier recommendation tomorrow, depending on what I find I'm up against to make this work.

Tom

The doors and cubbies are installed. Besides the doors being 4" to tall and 4" to narrow, the bathroom being a dumping ground, the cubbie needing modification, everything went really well. (Insert smiley of your choosing)

Never had bacon wrapped meatloaf before, another good artery blocker. Now I have to figure out how to make it.

[attachthumb=#]Took an inch off the top the balance from the bottom rail. It was a looks decision.

[attachthumb=#]Top and bottom rail spoilage.

[attachthumb=#]Got gap?

[attachthumb=#]Fabbing up side channels

[attachthumb=#]Side channel placed.
[attachthumb=#]

[attachthumb=#]Raw side channels, test fit.
[attachthumb=#]

[attachthumb=#][attachthumb=#][attachthumb=#]Channels installed with wall covering.

[attachthumb=#]Install complete with track trim/cover.

[attachthumb=#]This being a family friendly forum, I can't tell you how much I enjoy cleaning up after other contractors. (Mods, is  ok?)(Now that it posted I can see the answer is no, the software edit it before posting)

[attachthumb=#]Gotta make it fit.

[attachthumb=#]Fitted up.

[attachthumb=#]Cubbies and valance done.

Shane,

Can this thread be my Festomonial for the Syslite and/or CSX contest? I would not have attempted this without my Festools.

Tom

Wow congrats on the opportunity! your doors/vanity are simply incredible! Just curious, is this a mock up room so the execs can say yay or nay? i ask because the tile in the bathroom looks dated already

Tom,

Sorry about the word filter  [big grin].  Way to go!  Looks great.  Does this mean you got the whole "job"?  Do you get to charge the measurement takers for the site modifications?  Perhaps you can send them a quality tape measure (with your company info on it of course) after all the contracts are signed as a thank you.

Keep us informed on what happens.

peter

i was assuming that tile was old....!

would mind sharing how the doors ended up being to small? i don't want to call you out for a mistake but i'm curious where the communication broke down.

3Pedal,

Yes this is a model/mock up room. None of the tile was changed in the bathroom. I do not know if it will be in the future rooms.

Peter,

No problem on the CENSORSHIP ;), I expected it when I typed it. Not sure on whether or not I will get the job. It has to be evaluated by people more important than I am.

I'll bill them for the time spent correcting the error.

duburban,

For the same reason they were to tall ;D.

This work site is about 450 miles east of me. I built the doors to their specs. Until the evening before I was leaving, I did not know the opening size. Once I received the opening size, I informed them the doors were the wrong size. Because the project manager took responsibility for the mistake, without trying to place blame elsewhere, I chose to make this work.

I can tell you that these doors and vanity pieces, a Kapex on a UG stand and wings about 40 systainers, drywall, a sheet of 1/2" MDF, furniture pads, tarps, 3- 40 quart bins of other tools, glue, misc stuff, guide rails and a bunch of other items fits in my Excursion.  Came real close to having to pull the trailer, but I got it all to fit with not much room to spare.

Tom

Tom Nice job on the mock up room and making all the modifacations you had to on the spot due to their error...  that shows a true carpenter who can adjust on the spot and make it work, where others would just say screw it and walk away while scratching their heads...

so thanks for sharing and let me know I can meet you up their for a week and we can go to the rock and roll hall of fame... while I supervise you...
