A Dust Deputy for your Festool.

Jason, It looks great.  I been wanting to buy a DD because I wanted it on a systainer and did not want to take the chance on modifying one.  I'm looking forward to the cost.

There are 2 side tabs and 1 tab on each the front and the back.

We have different takes on what's the front and where the sides are...  but that's okay.  Just glad to know that all the needed tabs are in the correct locations to clasp the collection box to the top of a Systainer.  Thanks!

Jason, is the systainer going to be sold separately from the cyclone.  I already have the steel DD and definitely would like to add the new 'bucket'.

JGA.

So, can we assume that the Systainer-like box will accommodate either your plastic or steel DD cyclones?  We really need to keep the anti-static circuit complete, and I would think the steel unit would do just that.

I've had a ClearVue cyclone for some time and like it very much.  But I also have a second CT22 and am now thinking that another cyclone along with a couple of your new Systainer-like containers are in order...  I think/hope my older ClearVue can also bolt up to the new container.

And lastly, how do you foresee emptying your new Systainer-container?  With my current bucket arrangement I can remove the lid with cyclone attached and then cover the full bucket with a spare lid to keep the dust a bay until emptied.  Offering any 'blank' ids?  Or could we purchase an additional lid (as shown) separately?  Inquiring minds want to know.  [wink]

It is hard to tell on the picture but to me it seems like the side tabs don't have enough clearance to fit the latch of a systainer. This might mean it is not possible to mount this on another systainer, but only on the CT's since you slide the latch in from the side. That would sure be a pity.

Jason I think this is not only brilliant, but good enough for me to buy one.

I contacted your company about a DD a few months ago but never moved forward on it.  If I recall correctly your company informed me that they would prefer to have me order the product from a re-seller in Canada, yet you would be willing to ship direct.  Who should I contact to get one of these when they come available?

Cheers!

The current DD is so easy to attach to a CT that I don't understand the excitement about this.

Is the only benefit the fact that the dust will be collected in something that looks like a systainer?

The excitement comes from the fact that many of us either do not currently own a DD and were looking to retrofit with a DD/bucket or were looking into mounting a DD directly onto a systainer (fun, but let's face it, a lot of work).  This new product ostensibly solves both issues.

I do not currently own a dust collector and was having a hard time narrowing my choices between the fein turbo 1 or the MIDI.  Now that I see I can buy this DD and not have to invest too much time or effort hooking it up, I am going to buy the MIDI.

Hm, as much as I like this idea, it's disappointing that this news didn't come yesterday.  I ordered my DD last week, and just received the shipping confirmation this AM... DOH!!!

Oh well, I'll just have to stick to the original plan.

Please make the container itself available, as I'll probably purchase one.

What about the hoses in the picture, not festool, probably not anti-static.  Are fitting going to be needed to connect to the DD?  I have the 36mm hose going up the boom arm, will I need fitting to attach to the top?  If it includes the fittings and it all works out of the box, then I will buy one.

Sorry, I can't face the assertion that cutting a piece of scrap plywood to size, putting in two notches, drilling two holes for bolts, and attaching a bucket is a lot of work.

I do find that paying for "coolness" to be odd, but then I'm the kind of person that only washes my car twice-a-year.

If it's priced reasonably I'll definitely look at adding this to my Midi. It's kind of too bad the top isn't flat though, anywhere to set something down always comes in handy.

One of the reasons the top is not flat is to add strength to the top to resist sucking in under negative pressure.  This was a problem with the plastic buckets.

What would be nice is if they made solid plastic piping to make the 180 degree turn off the top of the cyclone and maybe another solid piece to turn up from the vac.  Then use flex between.  This would reduce the collapsing of the flex pipe around these two bends.  I believe this would increase the units efficiency due to decreased air flow at these two points.
