A matter of lifestyle...

I have done a lot of soul searching.  If I may inquire, what is soul surfing?

myself i've al was been into martial arts, I see wood working as an extension of this. see the Book Of Five Rings, Miyamoto Musashi. other than that I'm into web surfing and the kind of surfing one does when indulging in an excess of beer

In my mind, soul surfing does not entail going to the beach where you are most likely to be seen, but rather go off the beaten path with good friends, hit the water, catch some waves, and get high on the whole experience.  On the Island, we call it "getting cured".

With that explanation I can say that I have my version (far different than yours) that I have done.  In fact I did it last Sunday / Monday.  And before anyone thinks that this is hype, or strange, or a bunch or bunk, the people and members who have met me and know me to some degree could attest to the honesty of my answer.

I go visit Festool in Indianapolis.  It is the vibes, the smiles, the energy, the difference from what I do everyday.  It is what is possible, what is different, how people should be.  It is about enriching the mind and opening the eyes without knowing it.  It is about how techniques from other parts of the world can be adapted to what we do, and where we might be going in the future.

In classes it is about observing others and seeing a glimmer or spark in their eyes.  Seeing them enjoy and learn.  I go to see others learn.

If any of you have watched the movie City Slickers, you will understand.  My wife wants me to go to Lebanon to find myself.

I could go on, but.

I used to be a pre-calculus teaching assistant when I went to grad school in TX, and I remember the glimmer in the eyes of the students when I was able to successfully explain logarithms.

You may be a soul watcher... getting cured is the best feeling.

Does anyone on the FOG partake in some soul surfing now and again?

no soul surfing but plenty of soul searching. Like "why the hell am I doing this?"

Which part of "this" do you refer to?

My comment was a bit of a joke (irony) really but the part of  "this" I refer to is any and every part...I always think there is a better way to do something than the way "I" am currently doing it.
