A new class for our end user training program - Bookcases!

I think I had already talked about edited video earlier in the thread. It's something we have discussed, but do not have a current game plan to do.

Yes, we've talked about doing videos with training content. But there are no solid plans in place at this time.
You should hire "MrBigRock" to do training videos.  His kitchen cabinet series is terrific. As a retired woodworking teacher,  I can appreciate his organization and presentation.

Before We moved over here We were visiting family in LV. I stopped by to visit Steve. He was there with George the trainer  from Germany and "Brian The Sledge" all working on this project. Though they didn't say anything I sort of figured it would end up as another class.
I'm looking fwd to when I return to the states taking this class. It looks like a fun one.

I missed that before.  Sorry for the repeat post.

That would be a question for Phil... where is that guy?

Hi
Sure this would be great and as a Cabinetmaker i am at the starting blocks to do this [blink] but the U.S is way ahead in this area and facilities. I am not sure Bury st Edmunds can compete with L.V. although we do have the Abbey Gardens!!

It is an area that i discuss and promote so at some point it will happen in the U.K.
Or to put it another way the more you ask the sooner it will......... [wink]

Well, to watch it live you'd have to sit there for 2-3 days for 8 hours a day. I'm not sure most people have the time to do that and I don't recall that being an option we discussed.

In the photography world, a company called CreativeLive has been successfully doing just that for the last few years.  In their model, you can stream the video for free *on the day it is taped* and at the end of the full 2-5 day session, they offer up the entire video, chunked up in 30-60minute pieces for a few hundred bucks.  During the livestream, they have a chat window set up for viewers to ask questions and a moderator relays that to the instructor.

I know I've sat threw half a dozen live streams and purchased another four based on the quality of the instruction.

You might check out what they're doing and see if this is a viable idea for y'all.

-edit-

Haven't been to their site in a few months but it looks like they now have a "Craft/Maker" section, so maybe this is something you'd be able to partner with to get the videography done.  Who knows?

:-)

Yes, I'm sure that it will be offered by Steve in Las Vegas as well as Gregory in Asheville. But I do not have specific dates at this time.

Dates have been added to the schedule for the bookcase class. Again, please note that you must have attended one of our other classes in order to be able to register for this class.

The two Indy classes sold out quickly.

Glad I got my registration in this morning  [big grin]
Should be fun.

With such a high demand for these classes one would think that more of them would be offered.

Do the projects that are built taken home? if not why? Thanks in advance. Tim

Tim - Speaking from my experiences only, in the Essemtials class, the only real 'project' was a multi sided box of sorts, made out of MDF and held together with the Domino. Once person did take one home.

In the router class I dont recall a complete project

In the cabinet construction class, we ended up with 3 base and 3 upper cabinet carcasses, one class member did take some of them home with him.

I think it really depends on where you live! The guy who took the cabinets home lived in the Vegas area, I cant imagine trying to take them too much farther without your own car!

There was a lengthy handout in the cabinet class, I would imagine the same would be true (hopefully) for the farm table and bookcase classes.

For the price, you get a LOT! Aside from multiple days of pretty much one on one training, you get to use the tools you might not have, and the best way to use the tools, tips, tricks etc... plus make things, not just watch someone else do it. Breakfast and lunch daily, and we got a nice sit down dinner the first night as well. I have only trained with Steve Bace in Henderson (Las Vegas) - he is awesome! ANY of the classes are well worth the price and the time involved.

True, and thats one thing we discussed with Steve Bace, the Vegas based trainer. In order to keep it almost a one on one type of training, the classes are kept very small, typically 6 people - when you are in the class you really appreciate this.

There are only a few Festool trainers , and they also train retailers on products, as well as travel to shows, Germany etc... - so time ticks by fast for the training staff. We need to find a way to replicate these great guys - or add more weeks to the year!

2 people per bookcase, so no. We donate them usually to a charity.

I thought I said this already but if not, there are plans in place to increase the number of end user classes on the schedule this year.

Quality instructors are not common. I think Festool USA is appropriately conservative in growing their classes. They did recently add a new instructor.

The last thing you want is a bad class and in my observation, that hasn't happened... It's a lot harder to make everyone's time valuable than good instructors make it look.

Industrial product training classes cost a LOT of money for participants and are typically the most profitable aspect of big businesses. Festool USA has made this a bonus to the customer with their pricing and offerings.

Hey bud you could set up one in Yer store as some have done and make a deal with the Taco shop for lunch
