A Quick Kapex Video On The Changing of the Blade

A recommendation... some may find it helpful to set the bevel at 45 while changing the blade.

See....That's why you make 7 bucks an hour Shane...ideas, tips and tricks like that one just earned you an extra day off.  While you're at it, take the rest of the day off with pay will ya?

Timmy C

Thanks for pointing that out Shane!

One More thing on this video.  We purposely put a D27 hose on the machine, and nobody has called us on it!  What is up with that?  ??? :) :-[  Ok, to tell the truth, we didn't forget, we just had the D27 sticking on there.  Festool suggests the D36 on the Kapex, and believe me....it truly makes all the difference in the world.  CFM is greatly improved by implementing the larger D36 hose.

Timmy

Just caught that on the video and I am bit embarrassed.

Hey Timmy,

Could you try a couple of cuts with a ct mini to test dust controll?  I'm just curious.

Thanks much, Dan

Timmy, nice video and it was awfully helpful of RW to stand right in the way.  :) I too would love to hear how the Kapex works with the CT Mini or Midi and the D27. I am really curious about that as well.

Shane, no wonder these tools cost so dang much. 7 bucks an hour, you should be ashamed of yourself. I for one am shocked and plan on taking this to Christian O. immediately.  :o ::) 8)

If this really works please let me know as in lowering your pay to the more reasonable $4.50 an hour .  ;) Fred

Mr. Dan, that is what we had hooked up to the saw in the video.  The dc is just OK.  There is indeed a Marked improvement when the 22 or 33 is hooked up to the saw with the D36 hose.  Even with the midi and the D27 it is better than what we would normally see, but again, the D36 with the larger vacs is by far superior.

Timmy

PS.  Randy and I are going to be in the shop a bit later with a special edition video that we have been contracted to perform  ;)  We will get both vac configurations back there and try to show dc with both.

Since the recommended hose for the Kapex is the D36, I have bundled the Kapex with a CT 22, eliminated the D27, and will ship the D36 with the CT 22.  The package price reflects a CT 22 with a D36 hose.  This package will NOT ship with the standard D27 that comes with the CT 22.

Boy, that's a lot of numbers.

Those of us who have never changed a blade on a saw thank you for this very informing video ;D

No Sweat! ;)  I just assume that out of the 4000+ members here on the FOG there may be some who have never changed the blade on a Festool Kapex.

As Timmy pointed out the arbor bolt is pretty tight from the factory. There's a couple things to keep in mind when changing a blade on the Kapex. First the bolt is reversed threaded, turn it clockwise to remove it. And the blade and the saw both have arrows on them to get the blade on in the right direction.

An interesting thing about the blade mounting to the Kapex. It has sort of a slip clutch, if you will. The blade is pinched between the a dense rubber like flange and tempered spring steel washer on the outer flange. This is to help prevent the drive gears form breaking in the blade ever hits something it can't cut and comes to an immediate stop, the blade will slip between the pinched flanges. Well, that what David McGibbon told me.
