Dear all,

I saw this on Twitter today:

It’s not directly woodworking related, but it made me think of some incidents, where I was lazy and did not put my safety glasses on. Nothing happened, but I am always trying to be more aware of the dangers in every situation and also try to be more strict in my own safety protocol.

I thought if some of you are a little like me, a gentle reminder here and there helps us keep the focus and the eyesight and limbs and all the things we like to have. ;)

Be safe and keep busy!

Yikes!  That's scary.  A lot of times I also cheat and get by with my "safety squints."

More and more often I'm wearing my prescription glasses instead of my contact lenses.  My glasses are supposed to be safety or impact rated or whatever, but I wonder how they might have fared in this scenario.

Thanks for the safety reminder!

Thanks for the PSA. I usually wear my woodturning face-shield when using the hand-held grinder.

Anyone who needs prescription safety glasses, vseyewear.com seems to have the most affordable ones.

Locally, I've found Wal-Mart optical is pretty good.  It is about $90 for a set of safety glasses, $30 for frames and $30 for each of the prescription lenses.

I got mine from vseyewear for $67US including shipping to Canada. Of course, style and other prescription features and choices would affect the price.

North of the border, optical shops here charge well over $100 US ($150 to $200US?) for prescription safety glasses. I opted for the most basic prescription glasses as how I look in the shop isn't important; I just need the safety protection. 8)
