A sharpening systainer

Hi all, I'm not posting at all but I'm not so confident of my skill and what I see here is so well made that I'm intimidated by. But once in a while I wanted to share something I made and like pretty much, so here we are.

The main reason I lost time fiddlin with some old piece of wood is the need of having a pretty organized and ready to use way to store and transport all (no, not all, but the most part) my sharpening gizmos.
Other than my sharpening drawer I have anothe couple of places where I can use them, so transportability and storage with plenty of safety was a must.
So I choose a cheaper systainer option available on amazon and fitted a couple of tiers with no interference with the lid closure.

Pretty happy with the result. The upper tier is easily removed, and the lower one needs the integrated handle to be lifted out.
You can see the amount of stones I can store in.

When I'm in my garage the two tiers can take place into the sharpening drawer.

What stones do you have? Do you have any dimensions on this?

Nice.  Watch out for mold though.  Mine got ganky from stones that weren't quite dry plus leather strops.  Could just be an Atlantic Canada thing

That looks really great.  I have lots of small items lying around the garage that would benefit from being stored properly.  I'll take some inspiration from your work.
Don't feel intimidated by others work, just focus on your own skills, that's what matters.  I like to see what others have made because it helps me think of new ideas.  That flip up handle on the lower pull out box looks very cool.

I have the usual DMT duosharp 203*67 and diasharp 203*76 mm
The light blue one is a japanese synthetic 205*66 mm
The inner dimensions of the box is circa 207*331 mm
I had to cut the wooden base of the yellow japanese in order to accomodate it somehow inside

Other than the DMT (XXCoarse and down to 1200 grit) I have a 220 grit jap, a 1000/6000 jap, a 4000 jap and a 10000 jap.
Not shown here other odds and bits with some fine chinese, some old ones (presumably arkansas), a belgian blue and a coticule, an italian due medaglie and some spares. enough stones to build a wall, perhaps

not just a coastal thing, I think. I made a rack and hung it on the wall of the sharpening station, just an open shelf to let the stones dry before put them away. It works!  [wink]

I used to put the sharpening stone on the radiator. But now that I use my AC for heating... I just let it sit in the airflow somewhere.

Excellent idea, and top-notch execution. I'm going to follow your example, as I should consolidate sharpening stuff from a few drawers. I doubt mine will look as good as yours, but you've inspired me to tackle this project. Thank you!

Here's mine...not a real complicated deal, just shoveling 5# into a 1# sack...while still being able to close the lid. [big grin]

It's one of those God-awful SYS³ Systainers filled up with stuff. I managed to eliminate 2 of the SYS³ annoyances by trimming back the top handle detents and printing labels for the side of the Systainer.

After that, a Woodpeckers sharpening system, 4 Norton stones, a flattening stone, a 220/1000 stone, a 1000/4000 stone and a 4000/8000 stone and a bunch of miscellaneous items like diamond stones and a leather strop among other things.
