A simple TS-75/55 dust cover

This is another take on blade guard window cover to improve dust collection. The cover is made from piece of plastic packaging. It is a rectangle with cut out corners and two sides bent to slide into the window opening. Easy to remove and stays put once installed.
Festool should sell these. I think $39 a piece would be a good price in line with company policy.

It is just a piece from some packaging material. The kind of plastic that a lot of things are packed in these days.

BTW, people often mention that the dust escapes through that side window. It does not! The airflow through the window is in, not out (well, mostly). This additional flow path simply results in reduced airflow at the bottom. Covering the window increases suction in the area where chips are ejected.

I just ran down to the shop and put a piece of tape over the opening of my ATF 55 and made one quick cut on MDF.
usually good for a good supply of dust for which i have been attributing my use of a modified cyclone collection.
Surprise!  Almost no dust.  It is evn better than before i put in the intermediate cyclone collector.
I will leave tape on and see if the improvement is constant.

Using the TS 75 on most any material - MDF, MDO, Ply, Solid Wood - it appears that virtually all of the dust is escaping from the front of the saw, with little coming from the side opening.

If you refer to the ABSA-TS 55: mine fits in the (T-LOC) systainer when put on the saw as in the picture.

Interesting. I wonder if you guys have a different plastic insert in the Systainer. I bought what I think it the equivalent to what you posted here: LINK and the TS 55 definitely does not fit back in the plastic insert with it on.

I just put painters tape over the opening on my saws. But I could definitely see this helping identify the blade if you switch them a lot.

I have a REBQ 220V european model, that might make a difference. Will take a closer look at it tomorrow and make some photos.
