A few accolades here:
Sparktrician
I just wanted to take the time out and recognize one of the FOG members here, Willy aka Sparktrician!
Our first meeting occurred when one of his threads was resurrected about creating dividers for 90mm abrasives; which of course I had questions about. He sent me a PM here on the board and invited me over to show me the details and gave me a nice tour of his shop; which is very nice I might add!
During this visit, I explained to him some of the frustrations I was experiencing with my CMS-VL. After returning home, I discovered that my technique, while still very amateur was not to blame. I started a new thread in the "Festool Tool Problems" about my CMS. Here, again, Sparktrician sent me a PM and graciously offered to make a house call!
Here is the original thread: CMS sliding table (attachment point) problems
Spark brought a handful of things, as any good Doctor would and got down to the problem. About 30 minutes into it, my CMS-VL was taken apart, and the defective part identified. We got on the horn with Festool Service and got the part ordered!
We, (mainly Willy) identified the defective part as a mis-manufactured bracket (I will include pictures of course). It seems as the bracket was just loaded in the brake just a few millimeters shy to form a perfect 90.
After it was all said and done, we got to talking about all kinds of tips and techniques though, I must be honest that all the talking I was doing was asking questions!
Now, I can tell you that I am not used to these types of gestures due to the profession that I'm in; I know, as sad as that is it's pretty cut throat. While there may be a ton of very "nice" photographers which I call "photg-ra-friends" out there, I don't know of very many that would come to my studio and setup my lights and cameras as it seems that photographers believe they live in a Tom Clancy novel and defective equipment means a missed opportunity for me and one for them!
I'm very glad and fortunate to have met Willy and to have him as a resource as I can only extract but so much from reading and YouTube!
FOG and humanity as a whole is a better place thanks to Willy and people like him! Thanks again Spark, and 'til our next meet up!
Festool Service
The above all happened before noon on a Friday so I was dreading the reality of this not being resolved until the middle of the following week.
Festool Service shipped the defective part immediately and it was at my home Monday before 10:00am! Can you believe that? I'm sure you can as many of you may have been down this road before.
Service seemed genuinely concerned and willing to help, they were eager to get this resolved! I can't praise Festool Service enough for getting this corrected!
… Now on to the pictures! I mean c'mon, it wouldn't be a thread that I started and didn't add pictures, right?! The pictures I have taken of the bracket are done using an extremely shallow aperture to help you identify the defect.
Thank you Sparktrician for documenting this:
