I wonder?
It looks like the Festool abrasive situation has become too confusing for ordinary mortals again.
The former abrasive brochure needs updated OR better still — a web site dedicated only to the full range of abrasives. (This doesn't really exist now. ) So, tell me what is available, for which sander, what each has been developed for and the characteristics of each abrasive. For example, trying now to determine which is stearate coated is daunting, if impossible. I'm not a pro. I don't have time to go to seminars. I need quick accurate information.
How about it?

The basics...

Bare wood - Rubin
Heavy duty stripping - Saphir
Almost everything - Granat (bare wood, paint, finishes, stripping, etc.)

Those should cover 99% of what everyone here does.

To add what Shane posted in case you run across older info, Cristal and Brilliant 2 have been discontinued. Sales of Granat pretty much shoved them aside.
Many Commercial users will only stock Granat for their shop or job sanders if they can since it handles a multitude of surfaces, bare AND finished materials to boot.

Shane offered a good summary. We're actually trying to simplify things as we focus more on fewer types.
