Hi there, we're just coming to the end of a pretty major Reno. We had a house with a flat roof. Long story short, we decide to put trusses on and sloped the roof. One of the extras we chose to do during the Reno was the post and beam porch. In the after picture, we still plan to extend the porch out to the posts and build some stone bases for the posts. We are also going to remove the siding around the door and replace that with a cultured stone.
When all that has been completed, I just don't think that the current door will do justice to the rest of the house. I've been toying with the idea of building my own ext door. I live in Ontario, Canada so it will be going through some pretty extreme seasonal temp variances. It is under a covered porch but will still get some snow and rain in extreme storms.
I was wondering if the door rails and styles would be more stable built out of a single 12/4 piece milled to 2 1/4" or 3 pieces laminated together. I have access to a domino xl and was planning on using that for the bulk of the joinery.
I have been considering using Accoya since it seems to have good stability and exterior qualities. I'm thinking of painting it. Im looking for some advice on building with Accoya, the door construction and installation. I'm thinking of painting it..
Thanks for your time and thoughts.
