Suggestion of Administrators

The NA Imperial change/over postings beg for a tabulation of some sort. Therefore....

Add a poll feature. My guess is that software exists that runs this system that will allow a poll feature that will tabulate results.

Administrators would have to approve the poll and entries would be accepted for a limited amount of time with a running total.

The poll could be one question of offer multiple choices. Entries could be anonymous.

The possibility exists within this forum's software and we used to be able to post polls. It was deactivated some time ago because a lot of new posters made mistakes when they wanted to post a topic and made a poll instead.

I guess it could be reactivated for a one time special poll like this NA Imperial change/over.

Let's do it after Tyler gets back from Dr. Festool's Castle when he reports in with answers and comments. It will be more constructive than the torches and pitchforks that have greeted the decision so far.

The imperial/metric choice is such a fundamental matter, a poll would put numbers in place of sheer conjecture.

I hope you institute this poll.

Thanks

Clark,

The poll function has existed and does exist.  It was disabled quite a while back due to several reasons:

1.  It was a favorite of spammers
2.  Members did not understand and use its function effectively,
3.  Members did not make the polls neutral - i.e. asking a question and giving choices rather than interjecting opinions into the questions and choices,
4.  There almost always was a discussion thread afterwards that really took the place of the poll or else made it redundant
5.  There was no way of monitoring who was voting in the polls.  I.e. if it was a North America only issue voting couldn't be limited to just those members in North America.

I suspect that in regards to the imperial scale topic in North America Festool has gotten the feelings of members posting here loud and clear.  Whereas in order for tools with imperial scales to start being available July 5, those tools are already in the warehouse in Lebanon and possibly on their way to North American dealers.
