Adjusting Kapex

I need to adjust the miter on my kapex and it doesn't seem to be a T20 or T25 screw. Anybody have any advice? Tried calling in the last couple days but can't get an answer. Thanks

Not sure what the screw size is ........... T15 or T30?


Just went to check ...... T20 fits on my Kapex.

I tried the T20. I found a little slop too but it does seem to be the size.

Not sure if Festool has any Holiday hours going on?

I tried EKAT for the size but I don't see the size listed.

To be more clear I once used a T20 to adjust a miter screw and it completely destroyed the screw. Had to send my saw in and I'm trying to avoid that this time.

Just tested it -- T20.  It's a weird shaped head though, because I think it also allows a slotted bit.

Perhaps the previous mishap was due to a degraded bit?

The T20 is just a bit sloppy in there and doesn't feel right. Tested out ten different torq bits to make sure I wasn't crazy. I had to send the saw in last time after using a T20. Found another thread where people are asking about this, but no one ever answers the question.

i cut a deeper slot into the screw headed part that looked like it took a slotted screwdriver. Now i Can just use a big fat flat blade screw driver on the screws. t20 stripped mine out too. so thats what i did instead of sending the saw in for service for stripped screws. I'll look for replacement screws that are hardened later on in life. screws on the saw are too soft for my liking

Thats a really good solution.

Festool service just called and the dude is sure that it's a T20. I understand that a guy can get the screw to turn with a T20. My concern was that you need to tighten those screws pretty dang well to hold a setting, and last time I had to send the saw in after tightening those screws.

Those are Torx-Plus IP20 (eye pea two zero) screws which require a special bit; a regular Torx bit does not fit exactly due to the differences in the lobe profile between Torx and Torx-Plus. Wiha sells a set of Torx-Plus bits 71692 or there's a Wera 05028036001 screwdriver.

The Festool part number for the screw appears to be 400709, a "DG 50x16" screw; looks like it's made by a company named EJOT.

The torx driver you want is labelled TP20, its a common tool size the screws on lathe insert screws use. It is a slightly different geometry to the T20. A good set of Torx bits will include the TP range and well as the standard range.
