Can you use existing chargers to charge the new Airstream batteries, or do you have to have the new charger? I get that you might not have the same "time" benefit of the new charger with fan, but I just want to know if it is compatible for those of use with multiple chargers.

Thanks!

The information from a dealers website says they are fully compatible with the existing 18 V system.

Compatible, but you lose the benefits of AirStream obviously. Plus, the new chargers are higher amperage for faster charger times on the higher capacity batteries.

Shane, how much larger are the AirStream chargers oompared to the current TCL3 chargers?

I haven't seen them in person, just in photos. To me, it looks like they are longer and shorter. It almost looks like they took the part on the base and moved it to the back. But based on the only dimensions I can find, they are physically smaller. Maybe [member=57769]TylerC[/member] can confirm. I have been told that new inserts are needed for the Airstream batteries and charger to fit. That they will not fit into the non-Airstream inserts for the various cordless tools.

Measurements in centimeters. Divide by 2.54 to get inches.

(New) SCA 8 - 27 x 15.5 x 8.5
(New) TCL 6 - 27 x 16 x 8.5

(Current) TCL 3 - 29.2 x 19.8 x 9.8

On Monday I'll grab a couple of pictures to show them in relation to the current chargers.

The Airstream charger is larger, at least longer, for sure. It takes up more space in the Systainer. I managed to rummage around some and make it fit but it does take up more useful space. It might be a little narrower though but overall it feels like a lot of bulk.

Looking forward to comparison photos. I didn't keep any old chargers so can't do that myself.

I don't know where those numbers come from [member=48572]Shane Holland[/member], but they are way out. I don't have an SCA 8 or TCL 6 to measure, but the TCL 3 is only about 17.5cm in its largest dimension.

[member=11629]GarryMartin[/member], I got them off a European site. Don't remember which now. But, yes, I thought they were off. [member=57769]TylerC[/member] is supposed to be getting us some measurements today, I think.

My guess is that those dims might be the measurements for the BOX, not the charger.

Guess I could have grabbed my TCL 3 to measure, but didn't have it handy at the time.

I've attached a few images here. The new chargers (left and middle) are considerably larger than the old TCL 3 (right).

These aren't official measurements, but here's what I measured from the Airstream SCA A:
Length: 233 mm (9.17 in)
Width: 111 mm (4.37 in)
Height: 73 mm (2.87 in)

Because these are all unusual sizes, all measurements are based on the maximum distances.
