I'm fascinated (as well as inspired) by the works of many of the "old guards" such as Tage Frid, James Krenov, George Nakashima and the like.  I came across this eBook:http://www.jeremybroun.co.uk/ebooks/HTML5/makersmaker/. If you view it online, you can access a video or two embedded in there. Alan had influenced many British highly-skilled woodworkers or furniture makers including David Savage, John Bullar, and Robert Ingham, to name a few.

Alan Peters's saw-cut to saw-cut dovetail approach (i.e. aiming to cut joints that fit with minimal chiselling work) is what I try every time I hand cut dovetails -- with varying degrees of success (hey, I'm not Alan Peters [big grin]).

Thanks for the link, Chuck. I was not aware if the ebook, although I have the video of Alan Peters (I probably have the first copy, since I was in correspondence with Jeremy when he was making it). Alan Peter is certainly one of my inspirations.

Regards from Perth

Have you seen Rob Cosmans dovetail videos, [member=57948]ChuckM[/member]? He uses the same method, but of course he makes it look so easy!

Although I seldom do dovetails on softwood, but when I do, I always find success with Peters' approach. I suspect that hardwood which I mostly use has less tolerance and hence, the success rate is lower in finishing my dovetails in one take without any follow-up work.

Alan Peters is a legend!

I’m lucky enough to own one of his engineers squares and a king sharpening stone used by his fair hands!
