Alternative to Festool Antistatic Hose

I recently bought a CT 36 E for myself for my birthday. I love it. But when I looked at buying some 50mm hose I was having a hard time with the thought of forking over another $120 for a 2.5m piece or $170 for a 4m piece. So I started looking around for alternatives and came across the Flexaust Genesis DPZ-C product. A 25' piece with no hose ends was just under $87 dollars. Their hose ends are ridiculously expensive though, so I thought I'd try a Festool hose end with the DPZ hose. So for $138.63 I got a 25' hose section and 2 Festool 50mm connectors. Worst case I'd send them back to Amazon.

Well I'm happy to report that the parts came today, and while the Festool connector fits tight on the hose, it fits! So I have a 7.6m long 50mm Antistatic hose for under $140. Add 2 more Festool connectors at $52 and one could have two 3.8m hoses for $95 each. That's much less than the comparable all-Festool product.

Here's a photo of one assembled end.

OK so it's not Festool green but it's a big savings I think. And now I've got more than enough hose to hook up the free Dust Deputy a co-worker just gave me!

Now for some links:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053I61CK/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00 (it's $8 more today)

So just to see how it works, I just hooked up the 25' section between my CT 36 and the Dust Deputy, and then the 27mm hose to the DD input.  Using my highly scientific how-sucky-does-it-feel-on-my-hand test, I can't feel any loss of suction with the extra 25' of the new hose and DD between the CT 36 and the nozzle on the original hose.  I then did some misc cleaning around the shop and it works great!  The DD certainly seems to do its job well as I was cleaning up a lot of sawdust around the tablesaw and it sure seems to stay put in the DD.

Thanks for such a well researched ,explained and illustrated post. I ,at  least, am thankful. [wink]

Looking around their site, they have 1.5" hose of this same model.  Would that be a potential alternative to 36mm hose?  36mm would be slightly smaller than 15" however.

I wonder if this would work at all.

I have seen on the Bosch website that they have a 1" hose that looks like it would work great on a jigsaw.
That last link is great! They seem to have every size. Im thinking a fabric coated hose would be more flexible for the jigsaw.

I previously emailed Flexaust to get the O.D. of their 2" hose and their reference dimension is 2.4".  That correlates with the I.D. of the thread-on portion of the Festool 50mm hose end and proved to work fine.

I just emailed Flexaust again to get the O.D. of the 1-1/2" and 1" hoses.  The 1-1/2" O.D. is 1.9" and the 1" O.D. is 1.4".  Please note that they stress those are reference dimensions and only the I.D. is spec'd.

So if you have a 36mm hose end you can measure check its threaded piece's I.D. for comparison and that should tell you if it will work.  The 50mm end threaded on fine but was snug.

Enjoy!

UPDATE:  I just requested samples of both the 1" and 1-1/2" DPZ-C hose on the Flexaust web site.  So assuming I get them I will try them with the 36mm and 27mm hose ends and post the results back here.  Stay tuned...

UPDATE 7-24-12:  I just got an email confirming they will send me samples of both. :)

I needed more flexible hose and bought a length of 38 mm AS vacuum cleaner hose.

It fits tightly to Festool tool end, the other end is coming.. (missed my previous order).
It's much more flexible than my 27 mm Plug-it hose, I managed to put ~4 meters of it in SYS3. I'll let you know after I have cut it for miter saw and for cleaning set.

I think sizes 32 and 38 mm are like standards in Europe. Somehow Festool uses different sizes..

i ordered the 1.5" and Festool 452894 and Festool 487721.  so far i got the 452894 and the hose, they fit together with no problems.  still waiting for the 487721 to get here.  but see that the one side fit i feel the reducer fitting will fit with no problems.

Thanks for the update wascallyrabbit!  I still haven't gotten the samples but now I don't need to wonder...

Wascallyrabbit how did you purchase the 1.5" hose? Did you have to email them for a quote? How much was it for the 1.5" 25'? Thanks.

Maybe been posted here before but Bosch hoses are almost identical to Festool: http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-VAC005-5-Meter-Vacuum-Hose/dp/B0000AV78B/ref=lh_ni_t

At $28, they're considerably cheaper as well.

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the FOG !

Thanks for the info.

I think some members have / are using the Bosch hoses. If I recall , availability of them is variable.  ???

Seth
Thanks!

I actually did order one of these today to shorten and run from the Kapex to my CT26. Will post a review after I get it. Not anti-static but $28 and free shipping is pretty hard to beat.

I imagine most people here know about this but you can set up alerts for price drops on Amazon with: http://camelcamelcamel.com
Scored a set of half-price Carter guides for my bandsaw last month.
