Alternative to Sawstop. It is coming.

Wow great, what about applications where you need to remove the blade guard though?

That site hasn't changed much since I last viewed it about 2 years ago.

Can't say I'd be getting my hopes up anytime soon.

I don't like the Saw Stop technology but, if this alternative ever comes to market, I would purchase it.

What is not to like about the SawStop technology??

Many reasons one being it damages your blade when it kicks in! And it can be triggered by wet wood or metal in wood not just a human finger.

Cost as it increases the cost of the saw!  And the fact the the guy who invented is trying to make it the law to have the saw stop on all saws  which makes me not like him! people should always have choice and i hate people who try and enforce stuff on people.

Well  looking at it the guard can be raised above blade for doing rebates  but yeah some applications might require it to be removed  But  you can say the same with the sawstop like really wet wood or wood with risk of metal inside you can turn the saw stop off  so basically the same.  Unfortunately at the moment their is nothing out der safety wise which can keep you safe but still let you do any sort of application you want with out restricting you in some way.    Like chop saws I often on my kapex have to stick a wedge to keep the guard up as it gets in my way because it gets hooked or deflects the saw.

I purchased a SawStop about 2 years ago and my feeling was even if I Accidently kicked it a few times and I'm out a $100 blade and a $69 cartridge (how much is a surgery or amputation) each time its worth not losing my finger.  I cut a piece of wood that was 18% moisture content and the saw did not trip.  To me it is a cheap insurance policy that I will never lose the ability to do woodworking because of a split second accident.

As far as the inventor seeking mandatory SawStop placement I agree it should not be mandated, however I still think owning one is a good decision.
