amazing granat

hi  all
today i got to use some of the granat sandpaper that i got lately on my  ro150
i was sanding a wooden floor with a drum sander. it left 2-5 inch all the way round the room.
i started with 50 grit rubin but it clogged  easily.
i tried granat 100 grit (roughest i have) . it worked perfectly, it ate the finish off the floor. it only took 3  6 inch pads to sand  80-90 feet of a strip around the edge.

i cant imagine what 24,36 grit granat would do [eek]
it truly is an amazing paper. as my colection of other papers gets used i will replac them with granat

Do they do 750x200 belts in it too and are they much more expensive than ali.oxide or zirconia?

I also can attest to the durability of Granat.  The biggest difference I have noticed so far between it and Brilliant 2 is in the lower grits(40, 60, 80)  The Brilliant is crumbly in comparison.  The Granat has a strong coating and the particles are  ceramic  and stay sharp for a long time.  This paper is great for sanding paint off wood.

The Granat paper is my new favorite.  I have been able to sand much more on 1 sheet of granat then I have with any other paper.  I have been using granat for everything and as I use up my paper supply I'm replacing it with granat.

WOW WOW WOW!!! Amazing Granat is right.

I had to post a picture of my current progress which Granat got me to in record time. This is a delicate elm burl veneer with lots of pin pricks and a few grain cracks. To obtain a mirror shine it needs to not only be sanded smooth but also to have all the holes and cracks filled- and there are a lot!

Using my ETS 125- which is unbeatable for this type of job whatever the tool's detractors may say- I lightly sanded the veneer with Brilliant 220 and 320. Very lightly as in one or two quick passes. Then I switched to Granat 500 and gave the surface a good sanding (with very low dust extraction), before wiping the surface with a paper towel. Not a tack cloth which is important because I wanted the excess dust to stay in the pores.

One wash coat of blonde shellac, then hand rubbed down with Granat 500. Then a sprinkle of FFFF pumice all over, a few drops of baby oil here and there, and I started working it all in with more shellac.

Another rub down by hand, this time with Platin 1000, and repeat the pumice/ baby oil/ shellac.

At this point I took the photos. I have left them full-size deliberately- check out the reflection. Note that I have only started work on the top, not the rest of the cabinet. The point is that the Granat got me to this stage way earlier than my normal process would. Normally it might take me 6 or 7 sessions to get this degree of lustre. I'm here in 2, and it has to be the Granat because it's the only step I am doing differently.

Seriously fast and phenomenal result.

Yep -- Granat is really great stuff.  I initially did not like it higher grits, but that was sanding some plastic and I think I was sanding too quickly.  I have worked with it on wood and it is great stuff.  Stocked up on a lot during the recent promo and I should be set on my round sandpaper for a long, long time. 

Cannot wait for it to become available for the RS2E...

Back around xmas, I sanded the bark off a log with granat on a ro90. No real wear on the paper. And the yule log looked great.
