Like many other folk, I tend to queue stuff up and buy at the end of the month. Today I decided that reading before clicking is absolutely essential. Now terrified.

Important messages for items in your Basket:

23 items in your Saved Items have changed price.

RHX 4 Set Stainless Spring Loaded Toggle Case Box Chest Trunk Latch Catch Clamp Clip has decreased from £2.78 to £2.67
2 TrustFire 18500 IMR 22A max discharge Flat Top 1100mAh 3.7v Li-ion Li-Mn Battery Batteries. High quality batteries!! has decreased from £8.45 to £6.99
Visegrip 11sp Locking C Clamp 11in - Swivel Pad has increased from £17.39 to £25.19
Pulse [DVD] [2006] has decreased from £10.87 to £9.11
Fein Fein 921072K13 Step Adaptor has increased from £11.05 to £276.25

That Fein seller must have the automatic pricing algorithm going.  I see this a lot with books, where the normal range of a book will be like from $15-$25, and then you will have some outliers at like $400 or $500, because the algorithms enter a death spiral automatically pushing up the price for those sellers who didn't set a ceiling.

I don't sho until I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy the stuff straightaway.

Friday I'm dropping a little over 100 quid on some refinishing supplies. Will shop Friday then press the button.

It's worth noting that, because there are more sellers on Amazon.com than just Amazon, there is basically a queue. Lowest price with stock to ship seems to be who gets chosen when you select an item (unless you specify Prime, which I always do). I'm sure there are all kinds of weights involved but that is the basic idea. If every seller with a given item at the "normal" prices sells out, then a seller with an item at an inflated price floats to the top and gets selected.

Keeping non-urgent stuff in the basket often means getting a slightly better price if one waits for the re-stocking to come round again, which is why I do it and it gives me some "do I really need that?" time to assess my prioritisationification. It's also a lot more manageable than the wish list.

I've always had a long term wish list that I maintain on Amazon.  By checking frequently, I've often gotten great deals.  I watched for literally years a Powermatic table saw, a 7 1/2 hp air compressor, and a 12" Makita slider.  I got the 66 Powermatic anniversary saw for $1850, a PC compressor for $1250 and the Makita for $450.  The big items were delivered free on a drop bed truck right to my shop door.  I could not really justify the Makita but at the price I bought it for I could not resist.  I also track items on Warehouse deals and have bought various Festools this way.
