Another CMS micro adjuster . . .

Hi,
I thought I’d share my latest attempt with you FOG folks.

Having purchased a TS-55 and the CMS workbench a couple of years ago, it quickly became apparent that the precision I was expecting wasn’t built in to the design.
Initially, my idea was to use an amended MFT/3-ZK:

. . . which was going to use a 1mm pitch screw to move the rip fence left and right along the front V-groove. I soon realised that using the fence fixed to the front was not good, as there is too much sideways movement and cuts were not true.
On second thoughts, using the fence on the right or left hand V-groove prove much better as there is now no lateral movement - but that needed a different approach to a micro adjustment solution.
So I came up with this:

It uses an M8 x 1mm pitch screw fixed laterally at the end of the sliding bar and a machined aluminium block fixed to the fence holding end. That has a spring loaded button that engages with the 1mm pitch screw and moves the fence very precisely 1mm with one turn of the end knob. I just have to remember to loosen the clamp screw before adjusting and tighten it afterwards.
It works, perfectly and I'm frankly astonished at the accuracy!

As a (semi) permanent addition, however, it does restrict the full rotation of the protractor end, to the left, which may be needed for some other kind of cuts, but then I have bought a second fence and can use that one if necessary.
I did make it all by hand except for the release button, which my son helped me with by turning it accurately on his lathe.

Very happy to provide details/plans for the parts if anyone is interested.  [smile]

Very cool idea!  And simple!

Can you share more details / plans?

Thanks for sharing!

wimblejon - thanks for the PDF's - can you share a link to your Fusion file?  In the data panel you can right click and say 'share' and copy a shareable link.  Be sure to include 'allow download' as I'd like to explore further starting with your design

McMaster here in the states has a quick-adjust nut that you can use on a variety of threads that might work well with your concept for fast adjustment.

Thanks!

Hi Neil,
Happy to share the fusion file here:https://a360.co/2l2kLfe
I had a look at the quick-adjust nut from McMaster and am very interested to see where you could take this using one of those.
Keep us posted?
Jon
