Another Kapex question

You mean the height to the Kapex table if it were sitting on a flat surface? I believe that would be same as the height of a SYS 1 @ 105 mm. Festool designed it so that a SYS 1 could be used as a side support on a flat surface if need be...

Yup. What WOW said.  Also the height of the Kapex table when on either the UG stand or the MFT Kapex is the same as the height of a regular MFT/3. Very handy sometimes when you want both in a small space. Hard to tell from the angle of the picture but the MFT/3 is at the same height as the Kapex saw table (cutting surface). So a long piece on the Kapex is supported perfectly  by the MFT/3.

Like Seth said, that height above the floor is 900mm. It is the height of many things Festool. That makes the "System" much more integrated.

It's actually 112mm. The 105mm is the height of the SYS 1 without the "feet" which stack inside each other when stacked together. When placed on the floor, it's 112mm in height.

I took the specs right off the Festool USA website, so I'll blame them!
[big grin]

Seriously, the FestoolUSA.com website ONLY shows the height as 105mm. The Festool UK website, though, shows this:

Dimensions (L x W x H) 396 x 296 x 105 mm
Dimensions with floor stand (L x W x H) 396 x 296 x 112 mm
Inner dimensions (L x W x H) 383 x 273 x 75 mm

Thanks for pointing that out! I stand (or sit, at the moment since I can't stand) corrected!

wow Seth,

love that you have a vac per station......  very jealous

there should be a amonicon of a guy grooling to choose from lol

Just got to be too much of a nuisance swapping between Kapex and other tools. And sometimes the Kapex is not set up close to where the other vac is being used.

Always befuddled me why my CT36 with a Sys4 on top is just a smidgin taller than my MFT/3 ... would have been cool if they'd got that right! [sad]

Seth touched on something interesting.  I have the MFT mini with a Kapex.  I was looking at purchasing the extension wings, but all I could find in NA are wings for the UG cart and Kapex.  In Europe, they sell the extensions that are pictured on the MFT mini website.  In NA it was discontinued.  However, no where in any documentation or website could I find if the extensions that are on the UG website are compatible and fit/right height on the Kapex while on a MFT mini.  Finally, after 10 minutes on the phone with Festool, he said that they do fit.  The main difference between the MFT mini w/Kapex and the UG w/Kapex extensions is the one for the UG has one leg and the original one had two.  Has anyone tried using the UG extensions with a MFT mini and Kapex?

I hope I didn't confuse everyone as much as I did the person on the line from Festool!

They fit just fine on the Kapex if it is on the MFT Kapex. I have used them in that configuration.

Tom

Just to confirm what Tom said. Yes, the UG (single leg) extensions fit and work with the Kapex on the Kapex / Mini MFT.

In the vacuum you silly billy!  [big grin]
Its Festool!

The height is 110 mm. I am making a new Kapex mitre station and this is a key dimension. Also if you check the height difference, from the Festool web site, you will see that the MFT3 is 900 mm and the Kapex bench is 790 mm.

My measurement is the same as GarryMartin at 112mm  [huh]

My measurement is 110 mm which is what you would expect, unless Festool have it wrong, as the Kapex MFT is 790 mm high. However...

I think that I remember that the little rubber feet of the Kapex fit down into the holes of the MFT top which may account for the 2 mm difference. But on my current Kapex workstation, which has no 20 mm holes for the rubber feet, the height is still 110 mm which seems odd.

Peter

Both right.

But the Kapex feet drop into the extra holes in the Kapex MFT table to lose the 2mm difference.

If you're creating your own Kapex workstation without the holes for the feet, you need to take this into consideration and build at 788mm instead for co planar surfaces with the MFT.

[Edit - typed "with the holes for the feet" originally when I actually meant "without"]

I am building a station for my new Kapex 'real soon now', so this subject is of great interest. It seems like a simple question that turns out to have a lot of not-so-simple answers, huh?

Let's see if I have this straight:

If my Kapex will be just 'sitting' on a flat surface and I want to build support surfaces to the left and right of it, those surfaces should be 112mm higher than the surface on which the Kapex sits, correct?

And if I want to mimic Festool and make small recesses 2mm deep for the feet of the Kapex, then the left and right support surfaces should be 110mm higher than the surface on which the Kapex sits, correct?

If all of that is correct, is there an 'ideal' width for this center surface on which the Kapex actually sits? I assume it would be the width of the Kapex MFT/3, but would it be something else?
