I went to Lowes yesterday to buy some pine exterior corner molding. It was $25.80 per piece for an 8 foot stick. I needed two. So about $52.00.
This was for a wet area of the bath (but not exposed directly to water) so MDF was not an option.
I then went to the resin (plastic) moldings: $5.95 per 8 foot stick.
This is probably a better choice for the bathroom. No primer needed if you are painting with 100% acrylic paint. I have some 100% acrylic primer. So I am good.
That saved me $38.00. I never thought I would prefer plastic over wood. If you are painting, it is a good option.
I did some bead board wainscoting, and the profile was much better in resin than in wood and did not require any sanding (the wood wainscoting definitely needed some detail sanding and I was not interested in doing that). I did not compare prices back then, so I don’t know if it was cheaper or more expensive. But it painted up nicely (airless spray), and looks good.
At any rate, the point I am making is: If it gets painted, then consider plastic.
