another sander dilema. RO150 vs RO90 vs ETS150/5

Now you got me thinking...  with the DTS400.. thanks for the info..

I really like my DTS as a finish sander but it isn't going to work real well to remove your paint.  It's nowhere near as aggressive as the gear driven Deltex or RO90.

I see what you mean. For a moment I forgot that I need to remove paint from the old cabinets.

Now you see how so many of us end up with an entire fleet of Festool sanders. [big grin]

To be a little out of left field here.  I have used the Rotex and Deltex and like both.  That being said I don't plan to buy either or the RO90 in the mid term (3-5 years).  I find that a good scraper plane or smoother does a better prep job and the cabinet makers scraper plane does a better job of paint removal than sand paper.  That being said I use a sander for finish polishing and final not for prep and pretty much any sander will do that well.  I have a Bosch vibro blade and it is fine for the limited detail sanding that I do today.

From the limited exposure I would be tempted to go with the RO90 as it does a lot of things pretty well.  But if someone came to me with some systainers with sanders in them and said "OK pick one its yours" I would be really hard put.  Given that I no longer see a need for a sander to remove material but only for finish I would pick the RO90 but that's me.

I don't know, the RO90 is a pretty sweet machine.  I will say the dust collection with the Deltex pad is not as good as my DX93.

I use a mix of hard and soft pads.  It just depends how flat something is to begin with.  If it is all wallered out, the hard pad is a bit though to handle.

Wallered out, that sounds like the story of my life. [tongue]
