Another TS 55 EQ question

I’ve been getting some wiggles between my 2005-ish TS 55 and the rail at the rear of the saw. I tried tightening the plastic cam, but it’s still loose. I swapped the front and rear cams to see if it would make a difference; it did not. A closer look shows quite a bit of wear on the metal tab — opposite the cam — that rides against the rail. That metal tab appears to be part of the casting. Does that mean I need to replace the saw’s base?

Looks like you are missing some black plastic rub strips that go to the track side of the green adjustment cams.

I thought my TS55 EQ had them. (Have the TS55 REQ now).

The older TS saws did not have the replaceable wear pads and adjusters. You’ll need to replace the base, the replacement base should be updated with the wear parts.

All of my TS saws wear the rear out before the front.

Correct -- my TS55 never came with plastic wear strips, nor did my newer TS75.

According to EKAT, the base itself is a $94.70 part.  The cam guides are another $51.40 for each set, so around 2 clams for the parts.  If you pay FUSA to install it (which, in this case, I might for alignments' sake), the labor could increase that another 50% or so, but I can't say for sure.

I had the same problem with a worn base last year, as my TS55 is old I didn't want to spend much on it so decided to fix it myself.

I'm in the UK and the base cost about £75 and came as a complete piece with the cam guides already on.

It was easy enough to fit but took a bit of messing about to get set up just right.

My original base didn't have the black rub strips but the new one does. They seem to be a big improvement, I was always moaning because a couple of my Festool rails are slightly different sizes so I had to adjust the cams when swapping between rails but the rub strips seem to take up the slack.

Doug S brings up a good point.  The EKAT can be finicky about showing what sub-assemblies are actually included as part of a part and which ones are not.  Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's obscured, and sometimes it's just plain wrong.

If the saw was sent to Indiana, you should get a quote on the "make it like brand new" that should also include a parts list before authorizing the work.

That's likely the effect of the cam tension adjustment.

Wonder if a strip of HDPE tape over the two wear points would work. Since I have some sitting here, I'd try that first in case it resolves the issue well enough. I think mine is 1/16" or 3/32".

I considered that, but I don’t want it accidentally falling off without my knowing snd screwing up a cut.

Do you know if an updated base with wear strips is available for the TS75?
