Ok, so I asked a similar question about base shoe in the past, now I am thinking I could still do base if I wanted to. Just want opinions and advice as to whether I am thinking of this the right way. It goes without saying I should have planned for this in the beginning, but I didn't so here I am trying to look for alternatives to base shoe.

Here are the specs ( can post pics if needed):

Wainscot style is Recessed Panel. Top rail has 2 1/2 inches of exposure and the bottom rail has 5 1/2 inches of exposure. I could still do base if I wanted to without ruining the look of the Wainscot right?

Here is what I am thinking of doing... Getting 1/2 inch 1x material and putting basecap on the top. Obviously I have to scribe that to the floor, which I am ok with. I am just mainly concerned with whether or not this will look worse than just putting shoe in?

Any thoughts, opinions advice here?

Put I shoe. It's easy and quick and looks great and does not take away from design
The main thing is make panels look good the shoe is not the focal point
