Anyone get the 22mm Antistatic Hose product nr. 456745, for use with a Sander like the RO 90 DX, it's 3.5mm long and I'm thinking of using it attached to my existing 27mm hose so I gain a longer reach, and I speculate that it will be easier to work with...

I know it's discontinued but my supplier has it in stock.. I also need to know what I need to join it to my 27mm antistatic hose..

Thanks for any help in advance!

How do you know that it is discontinued? I have seen it on the Festool UK site and there is no mention of that. I am hoping to get the hand sanding block (496962) and this hose as I understand that they are designed to go together.

The antistatic hose 22 mm it's discontinued on the Festool usa site, where I first found it. I'm interested in the Sanding block also, but it's best used with the non antistatic 21.5mm hose product nr. 495019 which is still available..

I found the antistatic 22mm on my dealers site ACH autocolor.. I think I'll wait on it until I get more information from users and also I'll need to know the exact parts for joining it up to my 27mm hose, and if that is even advisable..

You can not generalise things you see in the USA website to all what Festool offers. Festool USA offers only a subset of what is sold in Europe.

The 22 mm hose is not discontinued in Europe.

If you already have a Festool vac with the 27 mm hose, then I don't see the benefit of adding the 22. There is very little difference.

If you want a longer length of hose, you're much better off adding the 36 mm hose instead. Use the 36 to connect to the vac and then connect the 27 to the 36. This way you get better suction over the longer length. And the 36 is also very usefull on its own, while the 22 is not.

Ah ha, I see, it makes sense to make an extension with a wider diameter hose, that's what I'll do then! Thanks Alex!

Thanks .... and the grey hose is much cheaper. Perfect.

I found the 22mm AS hose is not a big improvement in flex  or weight compared to the D27 AS. Some , but not a lot.

Okay good to know. When I have the funds I will get the 36mm hose to use as and extension for my 27mm.  Also to use alone with the TS 75, and the routers.. I wonder if it would be a good idea to get the 5m long 36mm for use with routers and tracksaws, as it seems 3.5m can be a little short if you are cutting up sheet goods..

I thought long and hard about this 3 years ago and went for the 5 m long 36 mm hose. It means that I can loop it over a bungee and then down onto the bench area for routing and sawing. It is also very useful for clean-ups.

Thanks Peter, I had a thought that in reality I'd need to pieces of 36mm hose, the extender piece I think would be too long at 5m connected to a 3.5m 27mm hose, So I'm thinking I should buy  some 36mm by the meter say for example 7 or 9 meters, then I could have a 5 meter hose for the track saw and make a 2 meter extender for the 27mm hose, or a 6 meter hose for the track saw and a 3 meter extender for the 27mm hose.. I think it's good to keep things flexible when your spending a fair amount on the hoses..

Now that sounds like a great idea. The length of the piece for your track saw and routing will depend on your workshop configuration - mine works well with a 5m length. I forgot to mention that I have a short piece of 36 mm hose that is used solely for the Kapex - I think everyone will agree that the Kapex needs as short a piece of hose as possible.

Good luck.

The 22mm AS hose is only tapered to 22mm for the last 200mm or so (I'm guessing as it's not to hand) the rest of it is 27mm.  The tool end is slightly whippier than the standard 27mm hose, but it's not a great improvement.

The tool end connector on the 22mm is unsatisfactory as it has the same outside shape as the standard connector, but a weak swivel part that should be held in with 6 lugs, but frequently becomes detached.  I have this hose as it came as standard with my CT Mini - I wouldn't bother going out to buy one.

For the hand sanding block (excellent btw), the best solution is a separate small bore hose that I just insert in the end of the main vac hose with a friction fit.  The small bore hose I bought from some specialist supplier online; it is much more whippy and does not have the chunky end connector.  The kit is elsewhere at the moment - I'll post a pic for you when I can, Peter.

Cheers

Great advice and useful information - many thanks. I look forward to the photo(s).

That is not the same 22 mm hose you're talking about. The one you mention is the new 22/32 mm tapered hose, while the hose we're talking about here is one that's been around for years.

If that is the case then you need to know that the new hose is an excellent piece of kit - I showed it when I made the new ETS EC 150 video. The end connector stays on as it should and it is not whippier or even wimpier.

Is there a different hose in Europe than we have? Our latest CT MINI/MIDI come with a tapered hose but is tapered from 32mm down to the normal 27mm and it's part number 499742. It comes with a 90-degree vac end just like the previous hose.

We definitely don't have that one, Peter.

It almost looks like it could stay warm on a cold winter day...

At first I thought scholar talked about the D32/22x10 AS-GQ , but when I read it back he says it is the hose that comes with the CT Mini. The CT Mini here doesn't come with a 22mm hose either, but with the same D32/27 hose as in the States.

I misremembered one thing - the hose is actually mostly 22mm and tapered to 27mm for the last 500mm or so at the vac end.  Maybe I was a little harsh on the 22mm hose - comparing the two side by side, it is somewhat whippier than the 27mm hose, but the tool connector is basically the same size, so it still feels chunky.

Actually, the 22mm hose has done good service and has been happily used alot with the Kapex and TS75 - even with the HL850 planer, although that is pushing it a bit - obviously the 27mm or 36mm hoses are more efficient.

The 22mm hose I am referring to is part no 456745 as per the OP's question.  It came as standard on my CT Mini a good few years ago (now the Mini is supplied with the 27mm hose, I believe).  Here are a few pics alongside a 27mm hose - you can see the poor design of the tool connector.

As regards the hand sanding block, I found even the 22mm hose too chunky, mostly due to the connector.  This is how I use it, compared to using the 22mm hose:

The hose I think came from here http://www.flextechhose.co.uk/t1800_flexhose_green-tint_suction_hose_pvc.html (I guess it was the smallest size).  It is not super flexible and the hose that Mirka sells might be better http://www.restexpress.co.uk/acatalog/Mirka_Abranet_Flexible_Hose.html?gclid=CMX_j-um4cECFUTmwgod-jUAHA except it's not green...

The hand sanding block just about fits in the DTS400 systainer which is convenient:

Hope that is of help.

Cheers
