They work and actually they tend to stiffen shelving too. It may not be like T & G'ing in a 1" x 2"(3/4" thickness x 1 1/2" width in us) on end to the edge, but there is a noticeable difference in ply, mdf or melamine shelf when using the solid wood banding bits with a hard wood.
I usually do not even sand. A nice little 1/16 reveal on the top and bottom is fine. Or a top reveal of 1/16" on top and let in a full 1 1/2" piece which gives the shelving a meatier look and much more strength. You can usually add 6-12" to the shelving widths of ply that only uses regular banding depending on how wide you go with the hardwood edge. It looks especially good if you are doing framed cabinets.
I have done it the opposite way as well with the tongue in the ply and the groove in the hardwood. I have only used the v pattern once, the hardwood tends to slip and does not self hold like the T & G when gluing. With the T& G I get away without clamping by using glue and then the Grex pin nailer. You can not even see the nails holes and it holds the wood edge banding on tight until the glue dries. You can not really do that with the V groove bits(2 nd picture).
Henrik of course I will mail you anything you want. Just pick out the ones you like whenever you want and I will get them and ship them out if you can not find any. I think the Eagle are probably a lot better quality and about double the price, still a deal at Festool standards - 69.00 US for two bits is not bad. For 28.00 US the cheaper ones do work and last me a long time, but if I had to do like a 500'(152.4 Meters) or more I would opt for the more expensive ones.
